There comes a point when dealing with anything that a man reaches the end of his rope. There is only so much tolerance one can sustain before driven insane. For the last hour or so I have poured over numerous topics discussing this problem. Im in reference to this "bogging down" problem when starting the car. For a few min the car will not accelerate. It feels as tho I am trying to start the car in 3rd gear. I could punch the accelerator and go NOWHERE... I hear all this jabber about my MAFS, so I pull the thing out and it's clean as a whistle. I ran a q-tip over it for a few mins and the cotton is still perfectly clean. I have an Injen CAI but I was experiencing this crap before. Im really sick of this. And today I get a GD CEL..! Does anyone have any new news on this?

Also, I seem to notice this occurring during extreme hot/cold weather. Is this relevant...?

nothing that the s-afc can't fix. I hand bog problems and dead spots all over the rpm range. Put on the s-afc and all problems have been fixed. Did get a CEL will tuning because i leaned it out to much, but disconnected the battery and continued with tuning. On my celica my settings are all over the place, but it fixed my problems. IN the summer I had to change a few of the settings.

If it was doing it before the CEL came on, I know what you're talking about. Mine only does it when cold. I've almost decided it's some type of failsafe before the engine warms up(like the no lift before it gets warm) b/c it goes away after a minute or so on mine.

I get the same thing, my ECU tells me multiple misfire in #2. I have an AFC and still live with the CEL on a daily basis. If Toyota service wasn't so prohibity expensive, not to mention the monkeys that work there that do nothing but read a computer and switch out parts till it's fixed. And have them think out of their small computer driven box and use automotive theory *gasp* because it's not a stock car. I'll simply get oh it's your intake, or oh it's your AFC come back when you take it off. Bastards....

There was a TSB on this for ECM and injectors for 2000. However if you want to diagnose it yourself heres the quick and dirty on how to diagnose single cylinder misfire.

1 - Identify cylinder (in your case number 2)

2 - swap plug to a known good cylinder - sheck to see if misfire moved with plug.

3 - swap coil to known good cylinder, check to see if code follows.

4 - swap injector to known good cylinder - check to see if problem follows.

5 - check compression, leakdown and valve adjustment.

__________

if the problem follows a component when you swap it you have located the bad part.
