So I recently came upon this "gadget" which presumably "Save Gas, Saves Money, and Stop Global Warming." Now I'm all for the first two, (third, doesn't really matter all that much to me).
I guess its supposed to be a 'filter' that attaches to your tail pipe, to 'catch' unburnt gas and other emissions. They have a whole section explaining how it 'works'. They go through details about cold-start times (how its when the car is working in its most inefficient state, which makes sense), which brings the catalytic converter to the ideal operating temperature. And they say that the device device decreases this time.
They also go on to explain Volumetric efficiency. Which is the amount of air the engine takes in, compared to its ideal theoretical max. They say that it brings the VE closer to the ideal value.
The only problem with this is that they don't explain how it actually works. How does it decrease the cold-start time? and how does it increase the volumetric efficiency?
The company also explains how they have 'test results'....which is pretty much numbers and graphs punched in onto an spreadsheet.
The damn thing costs $200, plus you have to buy filters for it? Catching unburnt gas at the end of a tail pipe, which is really hot btw is a wonderful idea. They also market it as "looking cool".
This is about as bad as that the time the "Tornado" failed, and the marketers switched it around to and "exhaust extractor" by putting it in your tail pipe.
Do they seriously think that this is a viable product?
"I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to go get two, one for the exhaust, and one for my intake. After all, it can hurt to have more right?"
(Hint: Sarcasm)
