my celica will be hitting 30K soon. is it better just to do what the service manual says or to get the dealer's 30K service package? is it worth it? it includes "checking" the major components... but don't they check over the main parts during a regular oil change?

It's a waste of money. Most of the stuff that's in the 30K mile service is checking. The only major thing that they do is an oil change, transmission fluid change, chasis lubrication, and tire rotation. I'm sure you can do all of that yourself and save a bundle.

thanks, yes- it's really expensive just for "checking."

30K service would have been around $260 for me, but I did some of it myself and just asked to dealer to do the stuff that requires a lift or a garage. I paid $150 for the important services. My gravel driveway is not the best place to work on a car.

Excellent point!
Not all of us have access to a garage or even a paved driveway.

That's what I'm doing, I'm just going to have them do the stuff I can't
