Hey guys, I've had my celica for about half a year and have decided I want to start making it "cool". The first thing I want to do is to make it sound awesome, which seems to be done by changing the exhaust. I'm new to all this, so I have a few questions.

1. Which exhaust should I get that sounds great and isn't above $300. I need this to fit a 2002 GT.

2. Is it legal to change the exhaust out? (I'm really new to modding cars)

3. Is there a certain sound limit for it to be legal?

4. Can I change out the exhaust or do I have to take it to a auto shop. (Again, I need to be legal.)

Thanks for all your help guys!

1) Most exhausts that you'll find for the Celica won't be less than $300, unless you want to get sh***y ebay exhausts. Try and look in the Classifieds in the forum for a nice TRD exhaust. Those exhausts are quiet, yet mean sounding. They're great for some grunt, but not too much. You'll be able to find a used one for around your price range.

2) It is legal to change the exhaust out, as long as you stay within 92 dB, it should be fine.

3) Again, if you stay within 92 dB, most police and inspection people don't give a flying fvck.

4) If you have ANY mechanical abilities at all, you'll be able to install the exhaust yourself. Its basically a matter of removing bolts, taking the old one out, putting the new one in, and then bolting them down. There's more than enough resources on the "install guide" section on this forum to help guide you with the process.

If you have any other questions, let me know! :)

Thanks for the great response! Are there any specific exhausts you would recommend?

1. Basically an axle back would be good.

2. It would be legal normally as long as you have a cat.

3. It has to be below 95 db, sometimes lower for local requirements.

4. You can change it out yourself, or take it to a shop.

I have a TRD Kazuma, which is the only catback, it's illegal but gets most gains.

Cheapest route that is of good quality is a custom exhaust, whch is what I did. $350 for a muffler and mandrel bent piping from the cat-back

Greddy evo 2....very mean sounding, not too loud, and good gains. Its a cat back and legal.

greddy evo 2 = not cat back. only one of those is kazuma (obx doesnt count since its header back and deletes the cat)
