went to fill up in jersey where it is illegal to pump your own fuel. asked the attented for premium he asked me again and i told him about 3 times premium. once he is pumping my woman says, is he putting premium in it? i look and he has been pumping my car with regular. i told him to stop immediately. i had a quarter tank before he pumped about 5.5 gallons of regular and 5.9 gallons of premium.
i have a 2000 celica gts. should i be worried at all? maybe get some octane boost. i searched and know what will happen if you run regular on a GTS but now i have some crazy cocktail of regular and premium.

dam, I would slap him silly
Hm, sound like octane booster would help a bit in this case.
just my opinion, never had to have premium with my GT
hope everything will b alright

Just drive it for a bit and then refill with premium often (keep topping back off) for awhile. You should be fine and to be honest could probably just drive it and fill as normal, especially if you stay out of lift. The ecu can retard for that as long as you stay out of lift, I would imagine. That's still pretty good net octane level, not optimal but I think you will be ok.

Can't pump your own gas? The only reason they passed a law like that was that people weren't using the gas for what it was properly intended for.

I guess in your state, people made bombs out of them, or spilled it everywhere, or smoke while filling up. It must be some reason... because lawmakers must have thought it was too dangerous for the people in your state to even come in contact with it.

I wonder what the real reason is.....

I NEVER heard of that law, sounds very odd to me.

I would put some octane booster in maybe that would help...

If you wanna crank up your octane for sure, get some xylene at Home Depot. It's around 110 octane, I believe, so adding a gallon should level off your octane.

I would be pi**sed. I've never heard of that law.
I would hate it. I never let anyone else do anything to my car except ride in it.

is premium in your state 91 or 93? If it's 93 it should be all right especially if you stay out of lift/WOT as stated..

I'm pretty sure it's just to create more jobs for gas-pumpers, which seems kind of ridiculous...but hey, it's the government, after all.

You'll be fine driving with half-premium, half-regular. I've filled my car with regular before (accidentally), and there was nothing wrong with it, except it seemed lift didn't engage as powerfully.

The problem isn't the law, it's stupid ****ing retards they hire. How hard can it be to remember to use premium?

its not even a matter of remembering, lol you tell em before they even start filling up. its following simple instructions! my old man got in trouble a few times when he worked out in oregon because he wasnt used to that law. he'd get out and reach for the pump and get yelled at for it. kinda nice on cold days though

its a stupid ass law i agree. i like to pump my own gas.
i think the station i was at had premium as 93.
the guy must have been retarted high or both
he asks me regular? i say premium, he says how much i say 20, he asks again regular? i say 20 PREMIUM, he says okay 20? yeah 20 PREMIUM still managed to pump regular lol.
i usually fill up in jersey because gas is a good 30 cents cheaper than NY and some parts.
the car is running fine, havent hit lift, i will definetly try and not succumb to temptation.
has anyone ever used xylene like blue bomber recomended?

New Jersey and Oregon are the only U.S. states that currently ban self-service gas stations.

The purpose of these laws was to protect consumers and gas station owners from costly, and possibly deadly, accidents. Better education and improved technology, however, have made pumping gas much safer and easier for consumers over the last 50 years. Since the 1970s, self-service gas stations have grown in popularity.

The New Jersey law was enacted in 1949 and the Oregon law in 1951. Each statute has stood up to several challenges in those two states.

thats what i like about wash state we pump our own fuel lol. I wouldnt worry to muchif it was a half and half mix it wont drop the octain level that much, if its 92 oct for premium over there and 87 for regular and you have a half n half mix it should come out to about 90. Just wait till your at above half tank and fill it up with premium again but at a diff gas station lol

yeah that's what I mean. How hard can it be to remember out of three grades for about 15 seconds. They're probably hiring the worst out of the worst to do this **** though and they just don't give a ****. If you did that to my car I wouldn't care whether it was a lawn mower and I preferred premium for whatever reason, if you put the wrong gas than the customer requests I would make it big. ****ing. deal. They should be fired. Just the thought of the arrogance it takes to not do it for whatever reason pisses me off.

That's why I tell them 93, not premium. I've had this happen to me once, i drove it into their shop cause the bay door was opened and made them drain it for free, then i filled back up with premium and didn't pay the second time.

I also ALWAYS watch to see which button they hit before they put the thing in my tank. i've had to jump out a few times because they hit the wrong button... damn immigrants.

I hate that about Jersey. That, and their "can't make a left hand turn" law as well. Lucky for them their gas prices are so much cheaper than here, otherwise I'd never fill up there.

my friend with a gts puts regular into his car all the time because he is a cheap ass...Hes been doing this for a couple years now .....I keep telling him not too but doesnt listen. Anyways his car runs fine with it, drives normal and doesnt hit lift or wot with it. Im actually surprised his car is still alive and running till this day.

But yeah just drive it safely in the meantime, my other friend accidently did that too on his RSX Type S and it was fine....

when i first got my car i put regular in it cause i didnt know and didnt see the sticker that said premium. I dunno that law though sounds kinda neat, sucks for the workers though when its cold. But it reminds me of the country video of the song "shift work" they show a bunch of girls pumping gas in tiny lil shorts and low cut shirts lol. Do you have to tip the people too? And what.....can't make a left hand turn!! There is a station here in Texas that says full-service pump and I know it aint that old but no1 actually does pump your gas for you.

The sh!thole dealership I got mine at filled it with regular. I noticed a huge difference after I put premium in it a week later. Almost two years later its still running great.

I would've told them to siphon all the fuel out and refill the tank at their cost...

haha I hated that law when i lived in atlantic city, took them forever to attend my car! anyways, just get a label sticker, put it on the gas cap, write PREMIUM ONLY, but that sticker would prolly ass out in a few days...

Do the sticker on the inside of the fuel cap, that way if they do it again you can sue the **** out of the gas station. :D
