hi,

I'm planning to buy a pair of HID bulbs from ebay for my high beam.
As far as I know, they're 9005.
What I don't know is: without the ballasts, would it be ok?
Regarding the quality, I can careless cuz we rarely use high beam, I just wanna balance it out with my low beam. Getting 6000K for low beams from Intense HID =)

thanks for any input =d

This is just my 2 cents but dont bother spending money on HID for High Beam. I am lost for a good analogy right now but its just not worth it. The cheapest lights are from VVME.com and those are still $70. Go out and get a pair of like silverstar or phillips bulbs for 30 bucks and save the $40 for something else
And yes you are correct in saying that the 9005 is high beam.

I agree. I think you're not realizing how HIDs work. They take time to warm up, and flashing HIDs is like throwing them away because you're just killing them. A pair of cheap HIDs is going to have a short enough life span, why put them in an application that's just going to make that lifespan even shorter?

And another thing, I know that my high beams come on at a very low voltage to be used as DRLs, and HID's don't operate at a low voltage. They're not dimable.

Save your money and buy yourself a lot of beer or something. You might still be throwing your money away, but at least you'd get something out of it.

Can't run HIDs without ballasts. They supply the correct power to the bulbs. Without them, the bulbs would either break or not run at all. And yeah, running them as high beams on a system with 4 bulbs is bad. HID high beams on OEM applications either use bixenon bulbs (shield slides forward and back to use 2 portions of a reflector for high and low), or use mirrors to alter the beam geometry. No system uses HIDs specifically for highs, since they don't like being turned on and off repeatedly.

First of all you HAVE to disable your DRL (daytime running light)
Second make sure not to flash your headlight (like to warn people), the reason being, HID has warm-up and cool-down peorid..
If you flash the HID, it will shorten the lift..
Third, since HID has warm up time, you won't get full brightness till like 10-30 seconds..

It's best to stick with regular halogen bulb in like white or bluish white color..
So that you don't have that yellowish color during daytime on the high beam... (aka DRL)

^ thanks,
somehow, my DRLs are already off. Instead, my parking lights are on all the time =/
Ooh, I forgot about the delay time for the high beams and the flashing that may affect it. =/ I c
However, I wasn't gonna go authentic HID on the high beam, just wanna buy the blue bulbs from ebay like a few bucks and have it looks nice & match with my blue celi... So I didn't think it's gonna be that big of a deal....
Or is it...

Bi-Xenon is a high and low in one i believe. We have a seperate high and a seperate low so no need for that.
