I was wondering where i could put a monitor in if i were to buy a dvd player. i don't like the sunvisor thing but i was wondering if anyone out there customized their dash and acutally cut our a sport under the air bag and above the glove box for a monitor to fit into. If anyone has done this could u please post some pics? thanks!

Only ones I have seen thus far are either where the radio was origionally or in the door of the cubby thing up above.

I think most of the people here were doing their own installs. And it you do happen to make a mistake or it looks a little off, The door above the radio is small and probably cheap to replace. Cut into the area above the Glove box, don't like it and it will cost you a very pretty pity to replace the whole dash.

well i would say put it in the Sunglass Door thats what i think im going to do.... Unless i get the Alpine CVA :) I would say that if you takein a Risk to cut your dash out yourself id just save your $$$ and buy the In-Dash Unit :) or put it in the sunglass box :) but thats just my .02

hmmmm....A keyboard on the visor, does it come down, or do you have to type with your hands in the air? Just wondering.

i had mine custom redone in fiberglass. i got rid of the clock to place the center channel there. the 3 chrome nob things under the head unit are a/v plugs for a ps2 or something. i didnt wanna have to go behind the dash everytime to hook up something and i didnt wanna permanantly install anything like that in the car. so now i can easily plug things in like a camcorder or gamecube.

My temporary install:

The screen needs to stand a bit more straight up for better contrast. I'm gonna have to slightly alter the design, whenever I get the motivation. :p

Sweet setup! Haven't seen a pic of it till now. Found a solution to the HDD problem yet?

The keyboard in the visor is not detachable. If someone would make a mini notebook type keyboard that's cordless, it would go in the visor right away.

The computer is used for playing MP3s, navigation and general entertainment for the wife when I'm at an autocross or track day. :)

Blue Bomber, when are you going to finish your LCD install? I haven't fixed the hard drive problem yet. But then again, I haven't worked on the car computer in a long time. I'm in the process of planning a re-install. I can't stand the crappy TFT LCD's so I'm trying to find an 7" - 9" VGA LCD that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. I might have found one for $499 though.

Hey Fourgig,

If you're still looking for a mini wireless keyboard, they have a bunch of multimedia ones at the following site listed below:

http://www.sunrex.com.tw/WIRELESS.HTM

From ones Ive seen in the past, they usually have a shape on the bottom so that they can rest comfortably on your lap. Also, most have a built in trackball or joystick in the upper right corner so that you don't need a separate mouse.

The smallest one at their site, (and the one I think best suited for you application,) is available in black or silver, and is about 10 inches wide. You will have to find a place to mount the wireless receiver, though. Pics below:

Well, here's my setup. I wanted to get an "in-dash" unit but I couldn't justify spending that much money. You have to tilt the seats back a bit, but I like it and it is 100% detatchable so when I'm done watching a movie/playing PS2, it's gone, and no one knows I have it.

I wanna see! :D

I still haven't been able to find a backlit keyboard that's small enough to fit in the sun visor.
