ok well i was thinking of adding a converter onto my stock unit so i can add a sub to it, but ive been hearing that by adding htis converter, the sub will not sound as good as it would compared to me getting a new head unit with its own sub outs... is this true or will the sound quality be the same compared to having an aftermarket head unit?

of course there's a difference dummy.
but if you don't want to spend money there's no other way about it....
if you're not a true stereophile you probably won't notice the difference.
it's like going to NY you can either fly in or take a bus, either way you get there but the bus will take longer and it will be less money.

even if you're not an audiophile you will notice the difference. I tried running subs and speakers from the stock head unit and I was not satisfied w/ the sound. As soon as I added an aftermarket headunit the sound quality improved 10 fold. You should really get a good headunit.. It makes life easier (installation) and sounds much better.

There must have been something wrong with your setup. I'm using this now (after removing my $2000 system) and I can hear *no* difference in sound qulaity from the bass (obviously the stock door speakers don't sound as good).
Considering how much noise the Celica makes in ther first place (rattling and such) I don't see how you could tell the difference (assuming everything is hooked up correctly).
