you are TRANNY SWAPPING?

has anyone ever done that before? u could be the first.... how much?!?

and u DID consider trading for a used 6 spd with the same amount of miles.. rite?

if u had say.... 40,000 miles on ur car... and u traded for a similarly equipped used 6-spd with 40,000 miles on it, u'd get money BACK...

its hard to find a used 6 speed action package with 13,000 miles on it. And in this area its hard to find a GTS period. I did the numbers and end up losing a lot of money by trading because its the first year of ownership which has a huge loss in value compared to after a few years. No dealer is goin to take my car, pay it off, and give me a new loan on another car and give me money back. If they pay the loan off so they can sell it then they wont make any money, its only worth the difference between what i owe and the book value. Which means i lose about $7K which was my down payment. oh well

Can see them. Good Luck with this project. What do you figure it is going to cost to complete this?

all parts if staying stock cost 1200. I'm doin the labor myself. But I am installin it with the fidanza flywheel, and TRD JDM silver clutch. so add that to the cost, its starting to get expensive.

So if you could find someone to do the install it would be pretty cheap compared to trading up and taking the loss. Alot of your expenses are really upgrades and mods, so all the better really.

yeah in my case its cheaper this way. But for some of you its cheaper to trade for the 6 speed. Someone with a 2000 gts auto that was purchased at the end of 1999 would owe a lot less on it and the value is still pretty high, therefore their trade in value would be much higher than someone like me who just bought the car and is taking the first year loss in value. Also I have an advantage that not everyone has by having a relative who can get me the parts pretty cheap from a salvage company that he deals with. Anyways as boring as all this sounds its awesome to me because shortly I'll feel like i have a different car again!!

My only question is this. I have always wondered what you are going to do to get a clutch pedal into the right position? Would you have to do cutting and welding? I am bad at this kind of thing.

i already installed it... i will post pics if you want to see it. It was a pain in the as$ but i only had to drill 3 holes, and i knew where to do it because the insulation already had a precut hole in it. Then i had to remove the battery and brake master cylinder to get enough room to fit the clutch master into its spot. Was simple job but not much fun.

MeGaXmAn27 Ah man you dont like the shift boot? Thats funny. I liked it a lot more than the stock plastic shift indicator that i never needed. It isnt real smooth at its highest point but thats just because i didnt want to cut the original rubber handle off at the base to connect the boot to the inner part of the shaft. So it looks like a friekin turtle neck or something, but if it were a permanent install it could be made to look pretty good.

This is a pic i got of the clutch pedal after i installed it. Was hard to get the camera in a good place though. There are three mounting bolts for the clutch pedal, and two of the bolts are part of the master cylinder, the third one is not in the picture but the hole is already in the firewall with threads for the bolt to screw into from the factory. I used a hole saw to make the big hole in the middle for the clutch master cylinder.

Thanks for the pic. I thought there would be something on the car to indicate to you where you would have to make a slot. Nice work.

You should also consider installing an LSD while you're at it. It will help just as much as the flywheel and cluch combined, if not more.

well the total for me is about ..... a lot.... no really its like $1800. And i wouldnt have done it if i didnt get such a good tax return of $1600. That was unexpected money so i didnt really look at it as a loss as much as most people. I do still think i'm saving a lot compared to trading in for a six speed (at this point in my loan). I want to do the lsd really bad but they're so damn expensive, and i am already spending more than i want to. And i keep remembering this--- my old pontiac will run in the 12's range at the drag with an open rear axle, and i dont even race the celica enough to need it. It should handle better with the lsd right? Where i live we get lots of rain but no snow or ice. Of course if i had the money I would definitely install the LSD.
