Just bought a 90 Alltrac Turbo and I'm looking into parts N stuff. Curious if any of ya have had the chance to tune a 3S-GTE and if so what parts you went with and how they worked out.

Crower cams are AWESOME!!! The idle is hella rough though... Greddy TD06 Upgrade, and EL Prototypes ECU. My friend down the street has all this on his MR2 and it flys!!!

Goin with a standalone engine management system (not necessarily cause its strictly necessary but cause I feel like playing with it) but I'll check into the other stuff, thanks!

Oh - out of curiosity you know how much power he's making? Just curious.

It will be interesting. I had to promise my wife I would leave it streetable so its gonna have to LOOK pretty stock. Oughtta be fun.

nice purchace. 3sgte is a great motor.

if you want COTS Stuff and not custom....

cams: hks 264s they are tried and true in the motor.

if you decide to get a greddy turbo, buy a different down pipe right off the bat. greedy;s are prone to cracking, and they dont cover the failure. personally, i think there are better turbos out there for your dollar.

check us out at www.board.mr2faq.com we have a few all trac guys on there, and a whole crew that knows the 3sgte inside and out.

see u there!

settle for nothing less than 350+hp :)

with AWD, that's sick :D

My goal is actually 400+. I wanna make over 300 to the wheels and AWD is 20 - 25% power loss to the drivetrain... Problem is I have to keep it streetable so I haven't decided how practical that is yet. I just found out the shippers not gonna have the car here till mid July though, so I'm not gonna get to play with it for a while. The other thing is that with AWD you cant really boil the tires so have to slip the clutch a lot and you really want to spool up FAST... I haven't decided how I want to do that since most of the big power 3S-GTE mods seem to be big late spooling turbos. Its just a project car though so I have all the time in the world :) My current wish list I'm considering is this stuff, how much money I can get permission to play with and what deals I can cut will dictate what I actually get:

Upgarded Ball bearing turbo (havent decided how big to go yet or what kind, I may be able to stay stock on the manifold)

Blowoff valve if I don't decide to try and run an anti-lag setup

Cams (to be determined)

Adjustable Cam pulleys

Custom oversized intercooler possibly with fan or maybe water mister.

Standalone engine management (distributorless preferred)

Intake & Exhaust (probably all custom)

550CC or larger injectors, pump and pressure regulator

Swap to MAF and Honda Uwega (sp?) sensors for engine controls

Oversize throttle body and custom intake manifold

Port & Polish & head job, including new springs & keepers

Swain Thermal treatment for Pistons, valves, full head treatment (combustion chamber and exhaust chambers) and exhaust manifold

It's a pretty expensive list right now... I fully expect I'll be pearing it down significantly. The real trick is going to be making it all LOOK stock enough to pass inspection. To that end intake, exhaust, turbo & injectors will probably be first. Should be able to keep a stock look with that stuff.

Good luck, I just blew up my 3S-GE :( End bearings got starved of oil and the crank dropped out, kaboom...... I've been told this is not uncommon and is due to poor maintenance, oil sludge going into the oilways and blocking them up, dipstick shows full but pressure is low. Oh well, at least the car was free.

Nice list of parts... just a problem, I don't see any drivetrain parts like a stronger center diff and a better rear diff? do u plan to make the 400hp on pump gas or race gas? if race gas then those 550cc's will work for you. but if ur tryin to get it on pump gas then ur goin to need more fuel, 660cc or bigger. Try the Tec II if u can find any, they don't sell the II's anymore they only sell the Tec III's now.

the stock fuel system is good for about 300rwhp in the 2 so i figure prolly like 250 in an alltrac. keeps us up to date. BTW i was looking for a good alltrac for like a yr then decided i really wanted a 2 good luck :)

you need larger injectors and pump for 300whp in a mr2, unless you want to run EGT's that will melt the head clean off the block.....

Pump gas - has to be streetable. I keep getting conflicting reports on the 550 CCs... I WILL probably go larger (hence the comment "550CC or larger") but I haven't setteled on a size yet. I've also been toying with the idea of plumbing a 5th injector into the intercooler to see how that works. Fuel enrichment + a little extra air cooling :) - should do the job if I can't come up with a more elegant solution. I'm still a little gun-shy towards water injection otherwise I'd probably be checking out that route.

As for the tranny and diffs... I haven't decided yet. I've pretty much been thinking on building this thing to where it doesn't tweak the hell out of the drivetrain, cause that tranny is a beeotch to swap and I don't wanna be doing it all the time. To be honest I haven't even researched teh tranny at all besides to get the names of a few comapnies that make what are reportedly some incredibly strong Rally boxes and rear ends for these guys. I still ahve to contact them to din out about gear rations and whatnot. I've also been considering just waiting untill I know if 400 HP is gonna break the stock unit or not. I don't plan on doin high RPM clutch dumps, I'm planning on making this thing to where she spools fast enough to turn a good number without it. I helped build a Galant VR4 back in college that he had to drop at about 4K to launch right, and we wound up putting trannies in like every 4 or 5 weeks. I don't want to be that guy. We shall see.

Nods on the Tec II / III thats been my thought as well based on some generic good comments I have heard, but I have a lot of research to do before I pick a standalone - still very much in the prelim stages there as well... I have certain kinds of sensors I want to run and very few of em are stock, and I wanna make sure that whatever I get can handle the mix I give it. Plus the TEC III is quite pricey.

Anyways everythign is preliminary right now - theres a lot of research to do and there are prices to be established. The only thing I know for sure at this point is that this is probaly gonna take a LONG time to get done just for cash availability reasons. But my plan is to decide what parts I need to make it work, and just wait to mod it untill I have managed to accumulate everything I need. Untill then I'll probably just tear the engine doen and see how the internals look and work on getting everythign else in good order.

I appreciate the offer. Once I decide what Turbo I'm gonna run I'll let ya know. I know a few guys local in LA that are decent as well though and I can go bug them if they screw up :)

We made a deal years ago - I have always wanted a Bike - she won't let me get one cause she thinks (probably rightly so) that I'd get myself killed. So the deal was that I get to build sports cars as my compensation for it :) As long as its got 4 wheels I'm gtg :) That and I do all my own work and I tend to get the cars cheap. (my first autox car was a Corolla FX16 GTS I got for 150 bucks, my next car was a first gen MR2 I got for 500, and this latest one (the alltrac) I picked up for like 4K which is about half of market value)

Besides - I make like twice as much as she does and she still gets most everything she wants in the way of stuff and time spent with her so she can't say TOO much about it :)

I wish ya luck. Only ones I could find were out of state and like 9K and up. Thats why when I found this one for 4K I snagged it sight unseen. Runs, drives, clean title - good nuff for me :)

Picked up the Alltrac today!! Runs prety well, but it feels like the cats slagged... bit of a restriction on high end and boost builds slow - I'll be communing with it later this weekend to find out why. I also need to fiund otu what butcher the guy I bought this from had do the engine swap and have him killed. Slowly. With a spoon. A dull spoon. The bastage had NO respect for the car - I mean - wire looms right NEXT TO the bracket they attach to are zip tied in place.... People like that really tick me off. I'd probably be more mad if I wasn'y just gonna tear it apart anyways though :) Still it was awsome to drive one again, I had forgotton how nicely they corner. I mean, 7th Gens are nimble, but this bad boy's on RAILS. Okay enough chit chat - I have to go mess with the car :)
