Shift into "D"

Drive to dealership and trade in for a standard.

Enjoy trouble free transmissions.

Damn you guys sure know how to put others down. Anyways, to answer your question...to shift gears with an automatic tranny, jsut push the shifter button and move it to which gear u want. I think you do this while leaving your foot on the gas. Im not too sure about this though.

You can keep the gas floored with no problems. Thereis no clutch delay for the rpm's to go up. just keep on the gas and shift.

you can put it in L, redline it and then go to 2, and redline that and put it in D. but if your racing, just leave it in D, i heard its faster then doing all that shifting crap.

if u shift from 1st to 2nd drive in a auto and then to drive a lot, you will **** the tranny up, dont i have done it before. 1st and 2nd gear are not for racing or anything lol, they are for likesnow or up hill or something. just stick with D - Drive and thats about it, and NO neutral boost/drops.

You have an auto GT I assume because the gts has that pointless sport shift thing. My advise to you is to just leave it in "D" Reason being is because you dont want to go through a new trannie in a year. Finally the whole point to getting an automatic is so you dont have to shift. Live with it.

You are using the same gears when you manually shift through or start in drive. You will not hurt the transmission by manually shifting. The only way you will be able to tell whether it is faster to shift manually or let the transmission do it would be to go to the track and try it out. If you are bracket racing then shifting manually will allow you to be more consistent since you will control the shift points.

Ditto, upshifting will not hurt your tranny. Downshifting will if you just do it and let the car jerk.

Shifting an automatic is stupid

Not too thrilled with your choice in trannys? Toyota shouldn't even make Celicas with auto trannys, everyone complains about how they wish they bought a stick. I learned how to drive a stick in my celica when i bought it. Take the day to learn, its worth it.

Better than having the idiotic computer select which gear it wants.

Why do you always defend automatics??

Why do all the manual guys come into these threads and start stuff?

Maybe some people just want to drive around in a great looking car and not have to worry about shifting. And I'm willing to bet that not everyone regrets their choice  You also forget that the Celica owners who aren't members of this board greatly outnumber those who are.

That being said, I will not buy another automatic until I have to put up with screaming kids in the backseat. I need to be more involved.

Oh, and caz: pretty nice "better than you" attitude coming from a guy who drives a GT. Because everyone knows that the GT-S is better than a GT. So much faster. The pinnacle of performance. Hell, why even have a GT? It's not as fast as the GT-S.

Okay, now substitute manual for GT-S and auto for GT.

Sorry not everyone is rich enough to get "the pinnacle of performance." And buying a manual or an auto has no relations to buying a GT or a GT-S. Its a choice and then its the reality of having money. Nice try though

A properly setup automatic will be more consistent at the drag strip and can handle loads more power than a manual tranny can.

You're completely retarded. Try and find my point again

Good point, though. It's a choice.

In case you're still lost, my point was that a certain person's superior attitude about having a manual is much like the attitudes that I've observed of a lot of the GT-S owners toward the GT's. And seeing how Mr. caz has a GT, the less performance oriented model, I found it a little ironic he was knocking a choice (an automatic) that results in lower performance  And screw the money issue. If someone really wanted the most stock performance out of a certain car then they'd find some way to find that extra few grand and upgrade, hmm?

Maybe I should have used these:

I don't defend automatics, I question stupid statements. Manual people shift faster to get more performance from their cars, should automatic people be any different. I don't think so.......:)

I know the question for the 3S ATX's anyway is whether it really is any faster. I don't know about the Celica's tranny, but with ours leaving it in drive achieves the best acceleration times in the majority of the cases.

E Z there pensfan83 i never thought i was superior at n e time while righting that post. I was just making a statement that people should just buy the stick and take a day to learn it cuz its worth it. Nothing was said about the GT-S or the GT, i was just talking about cars in general, sticks are more fun. Now wut part of my post did u think i was acting superior? Oh ya and no i couldn't find another few grand to get the gt-s, i am only 18 and goin to college working just to pay off the gt, its not that e z to find another few GRAND to invest into a car. Hmm?

I wondered why you were making such a scene, now I see why. Sorry, but I wasn't even talking about or to you with that post. I have no problem with what you said, except that it's foolish to think that the majority or even a significant number of automatic owners regret their choice. The ratio of dissatisfied to satisfied owners is in all likelyhood higher than normal on this board, but as I said, it's only a small and performance-biased sampling of all of the Celica owners.

For the other stuff I was talking to Mr. caz. Go back up and look for this:

Well now that that's over :). I said wut i said about majority of people kicking theirselves for buying an auto cuz whenever i read stuff about manuals and autos a lot of people complained about not gettin a 5-speed, thats all.

If automatic people wanted to shift shouldnt they have bought a manual!

Not necessarily, depends on what their primary purpose is for the car. As indicated on several threads it also depends on who is buying the car (read parental units). :)

shifting an auto is NOT stupid, it actually makes YOU go faster regardless of what THE GAME or ne one else tells you......you should start out in 'D' w/overdrive off and hit the gas pedal untill U reach 20-25.....then shift down too 1ST and when U reach 40, dont let it redline but immediately shift too 2nd, and then when U hit 60, shift too drive and then theres not much else U can do but keep ur foot on the gas, trust me this method works......I lost 3 times too a civic ex w/an intake and exhaust by just keeping it in drive & I won 5 times after that when I used this method.....and my friend that was driving the civic knows how to drive stick
