My aunt and uncle got me some oil for my first oild change however it isn't the 5w-30 like it says i should use. Instead it is 10w-40. Wut exactly does the Xw and the Number at the end mean? Also would it be alright to use the 10w-40 for my 2002 GT?

I wouldn't use it in a new car. It probably wouldn't hurt to use once but I wouldn't take the chance for $20 bucks worth of oil. It's more likely to have long term effect espically if use all the time.

Search Yahoo or Google for a full explanation it would take me too long to post here. But the w is Weight and the 10w-40 means 10 to 40 weight.

The numbers ar the thickness of the oil. 5W30 means that the oil when it is cold, it has a thickness of 5. When the enigine is warm the thickness of the oil is 30.

Beeing 5 the oil is pretty close to water (water=0).

Never put any other oil in the car then that it was ment to have...........

You're in california people, your cars will be fine. The weights depend on the climate you live in. Regardless, you will be fine. And you can change your oil before the break in period as well. I don't remember what the dealer told me, but I changed mine by 2k miles. You want to change it that early to get the metal shavings and other crap that is in there, out of there. That way it can't get stuck in any place (oil passages for instance). But yeah, you'll be fine.

Did you even read your owners manual? It says right in the manual that you should use 10w-30 when the weather is hot and 5w-30 when it is cold. I really doubt that 10w-40 is going to hurt anything in a GT. I would only worry about 10w-40 in a GTS because of lift and everything, but even then I doubt it would hurt anything.
