i was looking at a Kenwood DDX514. since income tax season is around i decided i wanted to go with a double din instead of a flip up style. my questions is that has anyone had one?
is it worth the price?

visually it looks really neat and clean. ive always owned kenwood and a couple of pioneer decks but i really want to upgrade to something nice.
my other question is. sorry if it comes off as quite dumb to some people but ive been out of the car stereo market ever since they came out with color changing face plates :AF:

but anyways my lead up to my question.

i have a mp3 player that i just got for xmas. id like to use it. i don't have any use for it at home or at the gym really but would rather use it as a storage device for my cd's instead of lugging around the cd book.

i see most all double dins are all "ipod ready" but i don't have nor do i want an ipod. so how would this or any other deck work with that? i have the usb data link cable for my mp3 player. so if i just used that instead of a cord going to the cig lighter and a headphone jack going to an auxiliary port can i just have the one data cable running to the deck?

and would it just treat it like a usb storage stick and i can get any media from the head unit?

oh and what do you guys think about the deck? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DDX514/Kenwood-DDX514.html?tp=75
thats the link to where i would purchase it. id really only use it for usb. and radio. don't really care for dvd but im sure it would be nice for when i would.

Thanks in advanced! its either this or i go to the local audio stores and listen to some bull about what i'll need and what not.

any other recommendations for other decks are more then welcome.
Thanks Again!

Buy the Kenwood DDX 712 at sonicelectronix.com Got mine there for the same price as the one you are looking at on Crutchfield.

this one comes with a connector for a thumb drive. I ditched my CDS and use an 8 GB drive for all my music.

what makes this one better then the other one? the bigger screen? how do you like it?
and does it take a mp3 player and read that as a storage device?

I ditched my CDS and use an 8 GB drive for all my music
because i want to do that too^
but with my mp3 player so i can take it out of the car when i want to use it.

It has a few more features but the biggest thing I liked was the CD slot was hidden behind the screen. Just makes it so clean looking. I have only had it for a week and so far the features that I like are

the screen tilts for best viewing angle
ease of navigation and touch screen works great
Has plenty of EQ settings to mess a round with
Makes even your stock speakers sound ten times better

Im not sure if it has an aux input like for a mp3 player I know it has an i pod hook up but im not sure if that would work or not. You could always just leave your thumb drive in the car and take your mp3 player with you everywhere else.

right i was thinking it would read it like a storage device since id have it hooked up to the usb port. i guess id have to get it and play around with it some. does your have the option to play a dvd in the back and listen to the usb up front? guess i'll have to find some stats on it.

and that ones like 80 bucks more though.
