View Full Version : Overheating? Loss of Power Steering?

Comming home tonight from a friends house, about 3 miles from home, my battery light comes on. I look down and my car is over heating. Engine temp gauge was at the max peak, blinking. I pull into my sub division and notice my Power Steering is no longer working. I pull over a couple blocks from my house turn the car off. let it sit for a little bit, then start it back up. Engine turns no problem. Car starts up fine. Engine temp gauge is now about 5 ticks high, still no power steering and the battery light is still on. This really pisses me off seeing as how I am suppose to drive up to Daytona tomorrow. This has never happened to me before. The only other time my car over heated was after Toyota got done fixing my engine after a spun rod. They said it over heated when they were test driving it. any conclusions? Or any information would be much helpful. 35,500 miles (just about to lose my bumper to bumper coverage) 2000 GTS 6 speed.

Well, just found out that it was my belt. It came off apparently. I'm gonna take it into the dealership today and have them look at it. Im a little pissed though, its one problem after the next. Anyone else have this happen to them? Im assuming it was tightened to much?

Yup, the belt came off.
Tightened too much? Nope, that is what the belt tensioner does, it isn't adjustable, put the belt on and forget it.
I don't suppose your belt/belt tensioner has been making any noise?

Okay, just got done talking to Toyota. Apparently a Bolt in the belt tensioner broke off. so they have to drill it out. I guess it would be safe to say that they did infact tighten the new tensioner to much. Such an inconvience.... Anyone know if I could possibly get them to pay for my towing?

Well, good to see you have the problem under control. Just be happy that your warranty isn't expired. If it was, I'm sure the dealership would find something to charge you for.

Yup - they may be willing to pay for towing. Its definitely worth asking. If dealers says no call Toyota customer service and ask them.
