i have posted before about racin an SVT contour and everyone thought it wasnt plausible. well this week it happened again. i was leaving school, and a bright green one (didnt know they made bright green) was right in front of me, he makes the turn, guns it, i looked for a lane to get next to him with no luck, got screwed, then went across two lanes to get behind him, and i was dead smack behind him the entire time, he didnt pull away. i think i am dead even with a stock svt with a good driver. SO NO MORE HEAT ABOUT IT! LoL

They have some serious torque. Their power rating is 200/200 on those cars. Good run, though.

This is the info I was looking for though. My g/f has a V6 Mystique, and we were wondering if her car was faster than my MR2. I was figuring it would be a little faster, and this confirms that it would be close. I'd probably win because I'm a better driver. http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Who cares. The SVT should smoke your GT, he wasn't racing.
Go back to the "Racing Forum", this is the mods forum. I hope you race better than you read.
Probably not, since you were "racing" on the highway.
Try it at a track sometime. Of course, you have to be over 18 or have a parent with you, maybe that is why you try the immature "street racing" thing.

Actually, it's the General Discussion Forum, but who's paying attention anyway. <IMG SRC="http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smilies/cwm29.gif" border=0>

Doh, looks like I'm almost as ignorant as BoyRacer.
Yes, this is the General Discussion forum. My bad (I can admit it).
Now, where's BoyRacer to apologize to us for wasting our time in this forum?

I think this is a genral dicusion, this has to do with my car being as fast as the SVT. this wasnt a racing story. i was trying to prove a point. one time i did post on the "racing stories" section about this. think about it. and just to clarify, i am 20 am a Business and Marketing major at the University of Central Florida.I am far from ignorant. The only one who seems to have a problem is you, and You are not getting any apologies from me. If you are such a grown man, what are you doing here talking to people in my age group?

Have any other GT's been up against and SVT contour?? if so i wanna know what happened? i think the stock contour vs. a Gt with some mods on it are just about equal. i saw someone at the track once who had intake, exhaust, and a 50 shot. i think he ran a 15.6 both times? Auto [Bot]_GTS do you have an auto GT-s? there are so many of those SVT's at school, i have never seen so many in the same place, i know they have balls i am defanatly not denying that. but i seriously think the two cars are neck and neck. someone said that they can be good for high 14's low 15's. i havent seen it, does anyone know?? it has 200hp i know, but isnt it a heavy car kinda?

OK, here we go again! http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/wink.gif The SVT Contour is a 16 second car BADLY driven, and a low 15 second car well driven. Heck, even C&D (yeah, a mag quote here http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/redface.gif) ran a 99 SVT Contour 15.4@91 in the 1/4. It is a mid 15 second car with an average driver behind the wheel. I/E puts it in the low 15's/high 14's well driven. Stats are:
98's: 195HP/165TQ 3100#'s
98.5+: 200HP/169TQ 3100#'s
There are other differences between the model years as well (handling, suspension, wheel/tire packages, etc.). I wouldn't have any doubt the under 60MPH you could keep up with any SVT Contour, b/c that's not where the car shines, it's up over 90MPH where the car really opens up. It's not a drag racing car by any means, although a bunch of folks are trying hard over on contour.org to make their SVT's into drag cars. Go figure. Personally, I'm paying mine off and buying a car more apt for straight line racing, like a 99+ Stang Cobra or LS1 car.
#'s/HP the GT comes up short in comparison to the SVT, whilest the SVT comes up short in comparison to the GT-S, so the SVT lands somewhere in the middle of the two Celica models (manual trannies only).
You saw an SVT w/50shot only run a 15.6? Man I could run that time stock. I've seen guys on the juice run 14.4's with a 75 shot and high 14's with a 50 shot. I've got video of SVT's running 14's but I have nowhere to upload them, gimme a place to upload them and I'll post the links...

Thanks. That means it's the same engine as my g/f's 95 Mercury Mystique, but with a few add ons. I've been pretty impressed with that engine. It's a bitch to work on, but the performance is very good.

Hey Yakkosmurf, did you have to get your tranny rebuilt on the Mr2 yet? if so what did that run you? looks like the levin took the life out of the stock 100k+ tranny. lol.

It's still on the original transmission and original clutch and still going at 226k miles. The synchros for second and fifth gear are starting to show some wear, but the clutch is still fine with no signs of slipping. I'll probably just get a new transmission if I don't get rid of the car by then.

I find the fact that you used Serious torque and 200/200 together. http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
If you're interested in SERIOUS torque, I have a car with 375/525. http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif
Back to the OP, Those Contour SVT's are a blast to drive, although, they are very tiny inside and I can't stand Ford Ergonomics.

Nope. The numbers are 195/165 or 200/169, I only wish for 200/200! http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/wink.gif The 3L Duratecs have 200/200, not the 2.5L's...

The extra power in the 98.5+ SVT engine got the Extrude-Hone treatment on the intake manifold.

Sorta, the 98's had extrude honed intakes as well, but only on the secondary intake ports in the upper manifold. The 98.5+'s had both the primary and secondary intake ports extrude honed, in the upper and lower intake manifolds, at least that's what I can remember off the top of my head...the further extrude honing bought 5HP and 4TQ, I'll take it... http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/wink.gif
