I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas how I can have a great sound system with good bass with out the big box in the trunk. Maybe a component system, or bass boosters under the front seats???

Good Luck. Onlly real way I acn think of is to have a custom setup done trying to hide it all. Or find a flat panel sub.

Get 8s instead of 10s or 12s.

you could put 8" free airs in the rear speaker locations. jl audio.

it would be really hard to seal off the trunk area welle enough for a free air to work. What I would do if I had the money would be to buy two fo the same driver. And what you do is mount them a special way, and you can get the same amount fo bass as you would if you had one sub in a huge box. its called an Isobaric loading method. I've used it once with a pair of Polk EX 10s.... the sub kicked... and went really deep too. wouldnt take up much room at all...and it would pound deep.
Just my $0.02.
PM me if you want more info on it... I have software for computer designing boxes of all types.... if you can give me speaker specs.

The IB4s are free air. they take 75 watts rms. i think it'd be really cool to put them in the rear speaker spots, and dynamat the hell out of the area. you could probably even hide the amp in there below one of the speakers.

I have an idea for you
You could cut the pocket out of the passenger side glove compartment so all there is is a door with nothing behind it. Then you could attach a sub in a box underneith the dash where the glove compartment was, and it would still look the same on the outside. Who needs the passenger side glove compartment anyway? You still have the center storage comparment, not to mention that little door in the center plastic. What do you think?

That's not such a good idea. The bass would be muffled and bass is only supposed to come from behind.
Clarion makes new subs that are about 2 inches deep and can be put in a very small box so that would be your best bet. A little expensive though.
Or Kicker makes 6.5 inch subs that you could use in the rear deck holes

Wrong-o. Low frequencies are not directional. It doesn't matter where you put the sub as long as it doesn't vibrate everything around it to pieces.

Tru dat, omni-directional. Youd have to brush up on your fiberglass skills to build a good box into the glove compartment, nevermind making sure the GC itself is air tight....

I'm saying that you should just chop off the whole pocket inside the glove box to free up room behind the dash, and leave the door in place for cosmetic purposes. You could by a wooden sealed enclosure and put your sub in it, then you could attach the box underneith the dash where you would never see it. There is a big steel bar that runs across the entire length of the car right behind that part of the dash that stiffens the chassis. You could use that bar as a mounting point for the box. I think that there is enough room under there for this if you removed the glove box pocket. That way you wouldn't have to pay to custom fiberglass a sub into the GC, although that would be cool :)
I think that it would accomplish what you want to do, and it wouldn't cost any more to do than a box in the trunk. I don't know, sometimes I just think of this crazy stuff that normal people wouldn't do. Sometimes really good ideas come out of my head, and sometimes all that makes it out is a bunch of crap. I'm not sure if this is one of the good ideas, or if it is some of the abformentioned crap, let me know what you think ;)

It would really just come down to how it sounded.....
but it way very well be good. it would'nt mark new levels for dB output. But it would be a damned creative solution

now i'm thinking of doing a fiberglass enclosure in the passenger's footwell. could be made pretty easy for a 8 or two. wouldn't take up more room than they need, could then cover it with grilles then carpet it and all so that its hidden. i donno exactly how i'd cover it, but i'd want it to be totally hidden. i think putting the carpet right in front of them wouldn't be so good. but this could definately be done.
