Pretty much any DEI system is great. Viper is in the DEI family and so is Clifford. I have the Python and it works great.

clifford has nothing to do with the rest of DEIs products... they're just owned by DEI... everything else was separate when they made the alarms that they currently have.

But isnt being owned by DEI the same thing as being in the DEI family?

No, being purchased by DEI is not necessarily the same thing as being in the DEI family.
The Clifford Intelliguard technology was developed by Clifford Electronics...before DEI purchased Clifford. This sets the Intelliguard line apart from the other DEI products.
The new Clifford Matrix line, however, is a part of the DEI family. In fact, the Matrix is basically a Viper alarm with a Clifford housing. If you look at the brain, manuals, etc. of the Matrix you will see that it is in the DEI(Viper) style.
The matrix works with DEI accessories (autostart, window controls, etc.) It will not accept Clifford IG accessories.
Hope this helps to clear things up a little bit.

let me try this again....
Yes, Clifford is now owned by DEI, and the Clifford alarms are now being manufactured by DEI. However, this doesn't mean that Clifford alarms are of the same quality as DEI alarms.
Although they are currently being manufactured by DEI the majority of Clifford alarms (Arrow3, Intelliguard Series, Solaris, and AvantGuard4) have technology that was developed prior to the buy out. These alarms have Cliffords 'G4' technology which allows many accessories to be used virtually plug and play. Among these accessories are power window controls, remote start options, and dual zone protection.
The exception to this rule is the newly released Clifford Matrix series. The Clifford Matrix is the first true 'Hybrid' between DEI and Clifford. Unlike the other 'high end' alarms in the Clifford lineup the Matrix doesn't accept G4 accessories. The Matrix is essentially a Viper brain placed in a Clifford style housing. This means that the standard DEI accessories (made for Viper, Python, etc) also work with the Matrix.

It was basically a repeat, but I think the second one might be easier to understand.

I use the CrimeGuard 745i from Crutchfield. It's pretty loaded and also comes at a good price.

well i have an alpine. and the best thing about it, is that most people have dei made alarms. they all have the same alarm chirp. you've heard them a thousand times, that 3 or 4 different sirens that alternate. i like mine because the alarm sounds different so in my apartments when i hear an alarm i know if its mine. other that the the features of mine are a whole lot like the DEIs.

I got a question, been wondering for awhile.
How do you rate a alarm?
How do you actually evaluate the quality of the alarm? Not tryin to be a smart ass, just really wondering.
Cuz when i was lookin for mine, i found that most are in the same price range, they do the samething, and have lifetime warranty.
I dunno, just wondering. I just got the viper cuz the name was familiar and it was on sale, and it had remote start.

Actually, all warranties are not equal...all remotes are not equal, all protection schemes are not equal
there are many ways in which an alarm can be graded
The Clifford G4 series comes out near the top in many categories. Among the features which I love about the Solaris that I have are:
Lifetime warranty -INCLUDING REMOTES (Viper, Alpine, etc...don't cover remotes)
Water-Proof Remote...I can take the remote with me if I go to the beach. No more putting the car into valet, and manually locking the door and just carrying the key.
Starter and Ignition Kill - Twice the deterrent for theives.
Computer Interface - Very Nice to have when diagnosing a problem or making minor adjustments.

i want to add a second siren, how woud i do that. and battery backup too if i can, but i'm guess that depends on the alarm. i have the alpine 8028.
