Which tire is better performance wise, launch, handling tire life etc...

225/45WR17 Sumitomo HTR Z II $106.00

225/45WR17 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 $100.00

This is on 17"x 7.5 rims on a non-lowered Celica

SUMITOMO tires are very good but are more expensive and less common than the kumhos. none of the two are really big deals, i mean we are not talkin Toyo Proxes here or Falkens... id go with the sumitomos, i used to have them, they have a a cool tread design, better than the kumhos..

yeah but i dont care about the looks, i want to know which would be better for launch etc, i heard that Kumho suck at launching and dont grip well

i had sumitomos for like 3 months and they looked brand new.. i would go with the sumis.. they gripped on turns nicely, u know that big ass turn on I-75 that turns left into 595-west... i could take that turn @ 100 with not even a tire squeak.. good tires..

so i should definetly go with 225/45/17 Sumitomos (non-lowered car)

yes go with the sumis the kumho 712 lacks in dry grip but is a great overall value tire.
