an acquaintence of mine just got a spankin new 2002 IS300 5-spd w/ some TRD package and close to 2k miles.

looked mighty nice and he wanted to race a GT-S since he's never beaten one before.

so i oblige and we head out to an abandoned industrial area (it's hard fighting a safe spot to drive near my town that's not camped)...

i had a great launch and put myself ahead by 1 car. when i hit 2nd, i felt his car start to catch up behind me... 3rd he started to catch up hard... and i hit my reds.. i won but i think he would've pulled if we went to 4th... he caught up to my door when i finished.

has anyone else had a run w/ an IS300?

learn to drive, the is300 5spd should not be able to pull on a gts 6spd. even in the 1/4 mile, it traps lower than a gt-s so you should have actually pulled on him all the way to your drag limiter.

no i didn't get a smoothe 1-2 shift...

this is what's weird... all of my friends have seen my shift... they all say i drive rather well...

could there be something messed up w/ my clutch? i can never seem to stay in vvtl-i from the 1-2

EDIT:

CaMMed - where do you go around here to race?

the proper technique for shifting to 2nd is after you put it into second, floor the gas then let of the clutch. this is hard on the clutch but it seems to be the only way.
i dont street race to much but if i do i set it up and go by alondra and bluemfield and all those streets that run across alondra which are in the business area. we should meet up and run then for ****s and giggles.
i dont know if you have the '00-01 or the '02 but if you have the '02 i hear you cant rev to 8200rpms to shift which would really help in landing on the big cam.

If you shift quick enough at the limiter, you can hit 6000-6200.

yeah shift as fast as you can but you still must give it gas before letting off the clutch, if you dont, no matter how fast you are you'll still fall below 6k. its mathamatically impossible to land above 6k without gasin it first. anyone try to tell you different...they dont know what there talking about.
have fun.

rear wheel drive is better for drag racing your numb nut... as soon as you launch 20% of the cars weight ****fts to the back and off the front.. which means rwd get tons more traction than fwd do right at the launch.. DUHHHHHH.... hehe..

DUHHHHHH.... hehe.. Really? Oh my bad I didn't know that. I thought it was because RWD cars usually come with bigger tires on the back. But my friend took some tires from a Corvette (well not OFF of a Corvette -- he bought tehm at TireRack.com) and he put them on his Civic and he could launch as well as a RWD car because he put RWD tires on it. OMG subtle sarcasm is completely lost on some people. :)

Hmm with my new transmission I just shift real fast and land above 6k easily. Ofcourse my car lurches forward pretty damn mean in my 1-2 shift and most times chirps 2nd. But I dont Rev it when the clutch is in. I think if you can shift fast enough and juice it up right after you let out the clutch you can land in VVTL-i
