Editing Programs

I was wondering what programs do some of you use to edit your pictures? I have nothing special, just the programs that come with your pc, but I've been wanting to maybe download one for free, but I'm afraid of spyware or something.
What do you recommed?

This is like photoshop for free, its an Open Source Program made by people for people to use. Its good, and there are online sessions to teach how to do things its pretty good

i use Adobe Lightroom and GIMP sometimes

I use Aperture. I round trip to photoshop if I need to work on a pixel level. I also use Photomatix Pro for processing HDRs.
