Hi all,

I have a 2002 GT manual. When I pull my shifter down (either on an up or down shift, I hear a slight click or tick sound coming from somewhere near the shift knob (not the transmission, or engine or anything serious like that). Its more an annoyance than anything else, but I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this, and knows what is the cause? I pulled the knob off and took the dash around the shifter off to see if I find the source of the sound, but was unsuccessful.

Please post if you have any information to volunteer,
TIA,

Mike

have you ever taken off your shift knob??? if you have the little rubber washer thing that goes between the leather boot and the white plastic piece that holds it up isnt there. check it, its likely its that. i know this b/c it has happened to me before.

Thanks for the reply redlineGTS. I don't think that's it, because when I remove the leather boot and shift knob, and try shifting with these off, I still get the sound. Funny thing is, I won't get the sound when the engine is not started up, I only get it when I'm driving, or idling. But the sound is definitely very close to the shifter, and not the transmission or engine.

Correction: I can recreate the sound regardless of whether the engine is on or not. It's probably just plastic rubbing on plastic. You can call me anal, but its the little things that drive me all batty :)

I have a 2000 6 spd GTS and I hear the same thing. Only when shifting in and out of third though. When you have to compress the springs it doesnt happen. Had the noise for about 5000 miles now and everything still works fine so I kinda blew it off
