View Full Version : New Car, 200 km??

06-28-2002, 03:08 PM
So I picked up my '02 black gts today (woohoo!) but there was 200 km on it! The dealer had to get it from someplace out of town but I'm wondering why there's so much mileage already. Salesperson said it wasn't a demo but I don't know if I can believe that. I'm worried about whether anybody drove it on the highway before it was broken in. It seems to drive just fine although it's a bit hard to tell because I'm keeping the revs under 4000 most of the time.

Do you think I should be worried about 200 km? Does that sound excessive and did anybody else have anywhere near that much when they bought their car new?

Thanks.

200km (120 miles) is reasonable for a dealer swap car. They located the car for you in a nearby city and someone drove it to your local dealership. I just hope those drivers who transfer the cars are good drivers and don't abuse them.

Silver:

That's my concern exactly. I'm avoiding all highway driving but I figure the only way to get that many km's on the car is by driving it from one city to another on a highway. Do you think I need to worry about it or just hang tough and see how things pan out?

Hey TRD! Thanks man, I appreciate your reply. I was waiting a long time to get this car and then when I get it, it has more km's than I thought it would and I was worried that it wasn't driven properly for those km's. But I'll try to just chill and enjoy the car. Thanks again.

You can drive on the highway with the new car. Just stay under 4000rpm and 100km/hr

You should of told the dealer to drop the cost a bit since it have so many milage.

When I ordered my car, thats what i did.....I told my dealer that if my car have too much milage in it then you can go find me another one or drop the price.

To set your mind at east:

I lease my celi's. Because of this I don't bother screwing with break in, I run em up onto the high lift cam as soon as they get warm enough to hit it, even if thats 10 miles into its life. And ya know what? It's never made a damn bit of difference :) - Now mind you its NOT the right thing to do, BUT I wouldn't worry if someone hit your high lift a couple times. Its not gonna hurt anything.

I don't think you have to worry. But I would check the dealers story. Where did he get the car from and does that justify the milage on the car......................

I've bought a new car before and I told my dealer I wouldn't accept a milage on the car. So, I got my car with 0.8 km on it.

Thanks for your replies folks. I just spoke with my dad (he's an electrical engineer) and he told me when he bought his new Maxima, he called the dealer and asked if it would be a problem to drive from Ottawa to Toronto (Hgwy 401) and the guy said no sweat. I told my dad about the 200 km on the car and he said don't worry about it. And the car is running great so far. I'm still going to take it easy for the break-in period but I tell you, everybody that pulls up beside or behind me thinks I'm going to drive fast ... people are coming up on my a$$ but I keep it at the speed limit. Once in a while I get pi$$ed and pull away but other than that, I'm being level headed.

Actually today guys were weaving in and around me and I stayed at the speed limit and just ahead on a side street was a cruiser with the laser gun out. Like an omen for me to go easy. I can't afford a speeding ticket for sure.

Thanks again.

I started mine off with 28 miles....hehe. My uncle drove it from Piercey Toyota to Hayward toyota where he works...

Here in London Ont. the speed limit is 60 km/hr on most of the main streets. I'm finding it hard to stay there because I'm in 4th gear but that's like the upper limit for cruising in 4th for me and it's so close to where I'd shift to 5th gear and go about 70 km/hr. It's like my car is urging me to either slow down to around 55 or speed up to 70. I have to constantly struggle to avoid speeding. Little celi is going to get me in trouble one of these daze.

Mine had about 2500 miles on it when I bought it. They gave me a bit of a discount for it, but I probably should have held out fore a bigger dicount or had them order one for me.

My GT had 30 miles on it when I got it, but I put about 15 of those on during the test drive. My GT-S was used and had 28,000 miles. Sucks to not be able to get another new one, but crashing the GT was still the brst thing I could do.
