View Full Version : Has the Celica lost its edge and looks???

The first 6 months I had my car(2000GTS), I would get questions and comments that averaged about 2 times a day when I'm driving. They would yell across the lanes on the freeway going 80. From domestic owners to honda owners, even an old lady in a caddy said "you have a beautiful car" Fixed up hondas would say damn thats tight and give thumbs up and stare at the car like they were gonna rape it. I would get stares everywhere I go. Now I had my car for a year and some odd months, I rarely get stares or comments, not even bad comments. People don't even rev me anymore
WTF happened? Are there so many celicas out there now that its become boring and like all the other cars out there??
My Celi has lost its spunk. I don't think it has anything to do with my front lip being ripped off tho. (hit a possum, never fixed it, raced an SI, hit a bump and it ripped off) Cuz you can barely notice it, unless you look at it. :D
They only should of made 2000 celicas and discontinue it!!

i dont know what the hell your talking about.
when i first got the car and everything was stock people would look and ask questions every once and a while.
now its just crazy, i get looks all the time and questions way too much.
i like it.
just get a body kit, rims and drop it and people will stare like never before

I still get stares from ricers and the occasional double take in the rear view of the car in front of me. Nobody has ever really commented on the car, except some guy in a 240SX asking if it was a 6-cyl. :)

its just you, when first got my celica i would notice everyone looking at the car, giving me thumbs up, telling me how nice it looks. now im so used to it that i forget the people are looking at my car and i get annoyed when people stare, cause i forget about the car. i had a ricer in a civic rev and come flying on my ass almost hitting as he came around me, trying to taunt me into racing...i just cussed him out and gave him the finger and he went away.

I've noticed that the car doesn't attract as much attention as it use to. I use to get stares and questions like "is that thing a V6" or "what kind of car is that?" All the time. People use to break their necks trying to look at the car. Whatever I go to WalMart or the grocery store, the people outside would just look and look. Now I'm getting treated like a Camry. No more stares or questions. Sometimes I get an occasional stare. I guess that people have seen the car on TV. And there are a few GT Celica's running around here. I rarely see any GTS's around though.
BTW, if the Celica's were only made for one year. We would have exclusivity, but we would give up what little aftermarket we have.

Its all in how you make your car look to the public.
If you are proud of your car, ppl notice that.
Drive it like its New, and show it off.
Also ppl are getting a lil used to stock Celicas, so spice it up a bit if you want the looks agin.
Do you ever look at a Stock Civic and go DAMN!, no, no one does.
Its kind of getting that way with Celicas now too, so spice it up and have fun with it. Thats how you will get noticed agin.
PPL ask me about my car all the time. I have no Muffler and a 2 1/4 strate pie, which makes them allways think it has a six in it. I get asked that the most.
Not to mention having Nitrus allows me to kill alot of ricers and make lil them go DAMN!!
The glossy shine of the Celica look is passing, time to upgrade your look. Thats all.

well.... after each model year, more celicas come out.... its not that we lost the edge, its just more common... but u ask the population....and most have seen a celica before (new one of course) i still like it, and yea.... it doesnt take much to make it spicier....jsut a kit or rims or etc.... maybe an orange celi will make people doubletake... half the fun of getting ur car fixed up is the people staring....:D

Dude...
I STILL get looks...just in different places now...the Celica has been out for a bit now.
Now I get more looks from fellow gearheads when I'm tinkering with it...
Today, I had it up on the lift..and the mechanics in the shop(mostly domestic)we're checking out all out... :D
They thought it looked badazz...for a four-cylinder. :D
Oh..and then I drove to Jack in the Box..and saw some CUTE asian chicas that gawked like ape**** when I came around the corner.
I'm sure it was just cuz of the car, though. :sad

i still get looks and compliments and i dont even have new rims or body kit, just neons on the bottom.
i got compliments and everything alot, but only cuz the car was heavily modded..

Of course we got lots of comments when the car first came out, but that was 2 years a go now. So now mostly the modded Celicas are going to be the ones with the most attention.
I don't believe that the Celica's looks has lost it's spunk. I'll catch a glimpse of my car in motion along the windows of a building sometimes and I still think, "Damn, what a sexy little b*tch my car is." And until they drastically redesign the Celica again, I still feel like it's a brand new car even though it's 2 years old.
Also, there have been very few new cars since the Celica that I think look as unique or well-designed. Like the "new" Civics, Sentras, Mazdas or the "new Integra" RSX don't blow my mind at all in aesthetic. Blah, bland and boring.

Word...I had some riced out Jetta try to race me because I passed him (we were both stopped). Of course he revved on me at the next light but when it turned green I let him fly. Besides I swore seeing 5-0.
At first I got stares, now I get revved on.

I do it too guys. Even though the public might not gawk at our cars, I still love it to death. I don't think they're too many cars in our price range that looks as nice as the Celica.

****...I've had my car for 2 years...and I still get people staring at my car...passengers sticking their heads out of their friends car as they pace me and yell "I LOVE THAT CAR!!!!!!!!"...I still come out to my car in a parking lot with someone circling it checking it out...EVERY time I drive by girls at school slow enough for them actually to get a good look at it all I hear is "oh wow, you guys...I love that car!...." and "::gasp::...that car is soooooo cute!" Everytime I get introduced to a friend's friend...and they see my car..."damn...is this your car?...nice car...."
I also get the looks from the businessmen in their Bimmer M5's checkin my car out in traffic...oh, not to mention the drooling high school kids when I pick my sister up after school...lol...I've heard my sister's friend ask her as she was getting into my car "damn... can I have that car?!" hehehehe...
And then you get the token people that know nothing about mods but walk up to you and try to pretend...I had a girl (very cute girl I might add) walk up to me in Boston and say "hey...are those 21 inch rims?" trying to sound cool...hehe......I laughed inside...21 INCH RIMS??!! damn!! LOL....."nah, they're 18's." "oh..what are they?...Volks?"...lol..."nah, they're Racing Hart M5's." hehe...I dunno...all I can say is I love my car.
Oh...and my favorite compliment of all time...which I've gotten from both girls and guys...is when they first sit in my car for the first time...they look around in the cabin and say
"cool...feels like you're in a cockpit"......YEAH BABY....

My friend and I were hanging out the other day and we were coming out of a store, all of the sudden the guy just goes like "Damn you have a cool car..." and mine's bone stock.
I just got it like a month ago.
Also, like 2 weeks ago I was coming out of the mall and this little kid was staring at it, then he looks at his dad and goes like "See dad? That's the car I was telling you about, that car is coooool!"
I get compliments and looks all the time, and I'm still using the stock lighting-rod antenna mind you...
EDIT: Oh yeah, now that I read the previous post, I've also gotten a lot of attention from people in Lexus and Beemers, I know they are not jealous and they are aware their cars are probably way cooler than mine, but they still check it out.
I don't really care much for the attention so I don't mind if it goes away, I'm always gonna love this car.

First of all, I don't know why it matters. If you crave attention, buying a car for it is a bad investement unless you are buying an exotic. It's understandable that the Celica is selling, and people are probably more used to seeing it. One reason why you may not be getting revved at anymore is that most people probably lost to one by now.. so they know what it can do. (now don't jump all over me about that comment, but you can't argue that the celica is faster than most cars on the road)
Anyway, personally, I still get looks, especially from girls. So thats enough for me..:D

I came out from my work today...
And I just had to gawk at my car....it's SOOO different from all of the cars out there(the ones most of us could afford).
You could just see the difference...my car stands out SO MUCH when it's in a parking lot full of other cars...it's like the bright red sheen of it just calls out and catches you.
It's amazing to look at from any angle...I can peek out my window right now....look down on it from an off angle(I'm on the third floor of a condo type apt)...and man...it just STANDS out.
Cars are not short term investments...at least they aren't for most people.
You've got to pick something that's unique to you..and that you enjoy.
Which would you rather have now...a Celica GT-S or a Honda Civic?
Either way you look at it...sooner or later...the car is going to be just a car...rather than the NEW car that everyone is raving about.
The idea is to pick a car that will still feel new everytime you sit in it, and rev the throttle.
I know that after a week of missing my car...now that I'm driving it again....I'm in love with it all over again.
Hell...even after test driving a WRX for a good 30 miles of offroad(ya..that's right..we went offroad..lol) and onroad driving....the next day...I loved my Celica even more.
It just feels right...like a damn cockpit :D
