I hope for your sake pioneer fixed the (firmware) issues that had so many people in the avic411 forums upset with those units when they first came out... I was going to get that unit myself until I came across those forums and ended up getting a Kenwood DNX5120 instead (it's not perfect either fwiw).

Edit/PS: I found the scosche wiring harness connector at Walmart for less than I was able to find at local audio shops & on ebay. I ended up buying the scosche Double-Din Faceplate/Sides off of ebay however because my Kenwood didn't come with a good one.

I put my panisonic one in myself, not hard at all. All you need is the wire harness for your car(you have to buy from a store $20) Just match color to color its pretty simple and then there was just plastic things that screw into the sides (like $15) to fill in the gaps it leaves, then your set. I wouldn't pay a store to do it they'll charge too much.

His is a Navi, don't forget speed sense and reverse wire in your gauge cluster if you want a complete install.

Yeah my friend and I are gunna tackel this tonight. I bought the wire harness and what not, I should be set.

This one does NOT come with a camera, nor do i want one *yet*, maybe when i turn 70 and can't look behind me or use my mirrors i might pick one up :D

as far as the unit goes, will it fit in the stock dimensions or do i need some sort of kit to keep it in place? like i said there are no bolts or anything on the top and bottom of it, just the screws for the side..

sn1p3r845
04-15-2009, 05:42 PM
Hey

I just got one of these units, I have a question for starters.

There is only the unit, and doesn't have the bolts on the top and bottom of it like the stock one has.. They have the holes on the side of it to screw it in, but screw it into what? Do i need to buy a kit like I had to for my deck?

^^ Well for mine there was a plastic thing to buy because there was gaps on either side, when you go get your car back just ask the guys there.

Well you said reverse wire so i assumed you would need a camera to hook that up....

The reverse wire in Pioneer headunits actually has two purposes; one is to aid in navigation accuracy and the other would be for a camera so your assumption is very logical. ;)

When I put a TV in my old car you had to cut the reverse wire or something to allow the tv to play while moving pita.

You ground it to something other than the ebrake.

going to visions tomorrow lol.

If you have the premium 8 speaker system then you need an amp bypass, but if you have the 6 speaker system it should be a direct swap with a wiring harness.

Like others have said ebay or just google search the part and plenty of shopping alternatives should come up.

The only thing that should've given you trouble is the speed source and reverse wire did you buy/have a standard 2 plug toyota harness when you tried to install? It's not that hard at all for the Celica with the standard audio system. Even for someone with little to no experience. You need any help let me know.
