But it's not....;)
You'd do better with just getting the real deal.

Defeats the purpose of real CF, I would think it's rice.

In the end, you'd be a lot happier knowing that you have actual CF instead of a look alike sticker.

U see as i described earlier (I JUST WANT THE LOOK) so in that aspect of things it really shouldnt matter if its real or not as long as i "LOOKS" like carbon fiber.... "Rice" or not me saving money to have the exact results that i am looking for that makes me laugh a lil "HA HA Ha" at those who (Have to have the real thing)

I dont think any simulated CF looks real at all. Theres no clear over it to give it depth and no fibers reflecting light in different directions.

IMHO People with real CF have the last laugh and fake CF parts are half assed.

all i can say is u get what u pay for.....
I have never seen CF vinyl that even came close to passing for CF
As long as you are not passing it off as the real deal, do whatever you want. But don't say that you've never done some whack mods later down the road.

why bother modifying a car if ur going to cheap out on stuff. i can understand if u go with a ebay intake or a custom exhaust...but ur talking about putting fake carbon fiber on ur car. its stupid, but do whatever u want, maybe ur friends won't notice it.

The biggest part about my cf hood and hatch is, when people come up to it, and say things like, wow, is that real cf, or cool, I've never seen real cf. What are they gonna do to you? Awesome, is that a vinyl!

Yeah, I'm basically with everyone else. If I can't get the real deal, then I won't get it at all. I don't want to be flamed for anything that's fake.
It's the same thing like that ridiculous Ebay Turbo Spooler I saw that fits in you exhaust tip. It gives off the impression that you have a turbo but you really don't, so why get it?
Those are my thoughts on it man.
dont do it. it looks crappy.

04-16-2009, 02:21 PM
Do what you want, it's your car.
Personally I'd just buy the real CF hood or trunk....and then paint it. I don't like the exposed CF look. Buy it for the weight savings, not the look.

if you want to try it go ahead your money and your time.. my opinion the only reason see carbon fiber on a car is for weight reduction..
but yea autozone sells Cf vinyl i guess you could buy some rolls try to match them up so the "fake" threading of cf looks likes its on big piece. roll the vinyl under when you reach the edges. wouldn't want some Prick to peel it off lol
and if you wanna go CRAZY you could hit up home depot and find some shiny clear coat and throw some clear coat over it. if all goes to s**tz and the vinyl is in one piece no hood/trunk exposed im sure you would be able to peel it off with the clear still on the vinyl..
umm good luck

"XBernie" and "imp" I dont kno what carbon fiber vinyl u have seen but wut ive seen looks "very" close if done correctly... and i realize i was asking for opinions and i appreciate all the feedback but i must fight back also... Whats up with having a spoiler? do any of u plan on going 150+ mph? and if u do are u planning on putting downforce to the rear wheels (non driving wheels)? of course no huh? well a spoiler is jus for looks and i dnt see anything bout how its a waist to have one on a car... and painting the dash/center console area inside the car... is that giving u extra HP? lol jus for looks huh? infact y even paint yr damn car? or have a body kit?.... like stated by "worrplyr" if u dnt need to reduce wieght then its basically pointless...

Yes, you can argue that a spoiler is ricey because all it helps is looks... but when you try to do Fake looks... thats a whole new level. Give us a pic of this carbon fiber vinyl to help us see.

like some ppl have mentioned above... vinyl doesnt have the depth that real CF does. plus u dont get the famous "gold-ish slow" when the sun hits it at certain angles.. like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/LiLgHeTTo145/100_0917.jpg
but overall, its up to u. if u can make it look good, then go for it. if not, then its not with it. just dont go all out and cover ur hood with one giant "cf" sitcker (or many stickers, cuz i doubt they sell them that big). cf vinyl may only be good on small areas...
what are u planning to cover with fake cf vinyl?

Painted wheels dont express a fake look. CF vinyl applied on piece expresses a fake look.
IMO Anything fake on a car reduces the quality of it.
I know you know that spoilers do not help FF cars in a straight line, but did you even think about track purposes. Tight, high speed turns produce high g force shifting weight to one side of the car causing wheels in the rear to lift reducing grip. I'd like to see you tell the automotive people at Trial that their spoiler they produce is pointless.

I think fake carbon fiber detracts more from a car than if it was bone stock. Most if not all automobile enthusiasts can spot the difference between real CF and a sticker right away even from several feet away. The only people who might be remotely impressed by a vinyl sticker are people who know absolutely nothing about cars and as a result wouldn't be all that impressed to begin with.
I'm not trying to insult you, or hurt your feelings, or make you feel bad... but honestly, you are going to get laughed at for it. They have CF stickers on kids bikes and power wheel cars for Christ's sake.

^^I agree. The thing is, if you're planning on doing this to your car (which already looks nice) just remember what's bound to come if you do so, mainly enthusiasts who will put you down for doing it. Where are you planning to put the vinyl on by the way?

that's a great example pic dan. I have a small half trapezoid cf "simulated" piece that fills the extra space from my redline goods ebrake boot. I hate looking at it next to the topshop parts, lol.
if you put fake cf all over the outside of your car then you have to remember that when detailing your car. I'm not a vinyl expert but a brush roller carwash would probably scratch up that vinyl, harsh cleaners will fade or bleach it out.
but it's your car so do what you think is right for your personal style.

there is only one brush roller wash left over near my house (the drive thru style), yet people still take brand new cars up in there and wonder why they have hairline scratches. If a person ran up into one of those things they would probably get knocked around a bit, lol.

Becasue the mirror covers are actually real CF. IMHO anything but real CF looks bad but if someone wants to rock it that is their choice.

It's most likely because we're trying to save him the trouble of getting flamed on by car enthusiasts if he were to purchase and apply the vinyl. However, if he can handle all of the flaming and whatnot (you can only handle but so much after time) then he can go for it.
If he wants to do it, he should be ready to accept what's going to happen afterwards. Everyone's giving their humble opinion on the subject, that's all.

I know its real cf guys, im just making the point to the people who said it defies the point of carbon fiber. Most people were saying people get carbon hoods and what not for the weight reduction so the vinyls have no purpose. So what are you gaining by puttiing cf on the side mirrors? There isnt a purpose for that either.

It's all personal opinion. Like you said, you like the "look" of it. Well, by all means buy the stick on cf if you don't wanna lay down that much money.
Me personally, I love cf and I was searching A LOT for the best looking cf trim kit.
I don't like how you can tell the cf pieces in your car are stick ons.
I finally found a molded trim kit that was advertised as "real looking" carbon fiber. They had pictures and everything. So I got it a few weeks later. Opened it up, and it was the "simulated look" not the "real look".
So, I sold it. If it had been the "real looking" cf, I would have kept it b/c it was a molded kit, not stick ons.
I was so fed up with all the bs out there on the market, I finally just sent all my pieces to top shop.
Top Shop ftw!!

It doesn't matter whether you have made your skirt from table cover, or ripped a pair of jeans for looks. But Fake Louis Vitton that's So~ noticeable??? that's a no-no. :nono:
