Ran into a slightly modded VR-4 tonight...

Yeah..so here I am driving...top down...music up...when I see these lights coming behind me fast...as I look next to me...I see a VR-4 FLY by! I just laugh...and then I see his brake lights...he waits for me to pass...then gets behind me...

I turn on to a 1 lane road...and he is still behind me...the lane splits into 2...and we are cruising next to eachother around 45 mph...we come to a light...and it turns red!

I inch up to get equal to him...not knowing whether to launch it or not...cuz I know I would be creamed!!!! Light turns green...and we both slowly pull away...while going around 30mph...I flash my highs...wait...then smash the gas!

Redline...shift into second...I look next to me...and to my amazement...he is still there...not in front of me...I shift into third...and he is about a 1/2 car behind...I smile...and let off the gas...we both slow down...

We pull up to another light...and he says to me that I got a fast car! I ask if he's stock, which he isn't! Intake/Exhaust/HKS BOV... He asks to go from a launch..and I agree!

I revv up to 7500, hold, waiting for the light! GREEN...I dump the clutch, and I see him put about a car on me from the get go! I shift into second, and basically make up 1/2 a car...! I pull along side of him, and couldn't pass him til around 4th gear!

I pull next to him at the next red light, give eachother a thumbs up! Guy claims to run mid-high 13s at the track! So, I turn off, wave, and smile cuz I luv my STOOK!!!!

Good kill man, those VR-4's are nothing to joke about and with those mods he has he should have taken you especially if you are stock. You must be one helluva driver to only be back only one car length from a VR-4 (AWD of course) in your relatively torqueless S2000. And have fun in the long run with those 7500 RPM launches.

:rolleyes: Next joke :D I raced a couple S2000s at the track, the best they could pull was a 14.4 - 14.5 while I was running 12.9 - 13.4. The only mods that I had on my coupe were exhaust and intake, no boost controller :D S2000 is good for autoX but, it will NOT take a VR4 in a straight line, or topspeed ;)

yellowstealth---how do you figure a 3000gt/Stealth is big? It's compact in every way. My car only weighs 3045lbs. It isn't that much bigger than a Celica.

TRD-GT---You are correct, Celicas are a great buy, and give good performance for a good price. I love the looks of the cars (although my girlfriend hates them).

Just don't underestimate non-turbo 3000gt's and Stealths and say they are slower than Celicas. They are about the same. My 1/4 time was done with only a K&N air filter and on street tires. I also have over 120K miles and could use a tune-up. You GT-S guys run about the same times as me, don't you? A local kid with a lowered white Celica GT told me a stock GT-S will run mid/low 14's, too. I took his advice and didn't race his friend in his TRD GT-S.

I happen to like 3000 gt's a lot, I really don't think the sl's are that fast, but neither is my car. I think a car that looks that fast should play the part, and quite frankly the sl does not. My boss had one I drove a few times and I wasn't all that impressed, and if I drove one I certainly wouldn't be making fun of another respectable car that costs 10k less brand new and with $1200 in mods could easily keep up with me. you should be racing bottle fed celica's luv, not awd turbo cars. you learned the hard way.

yes i have raced a s2k before, a couple of them. wasn't exactly a hard race either. one from a dead stop. one from a roll.

the one i raced from a roll has neuspeed exhaust. pretty much just ate his lunch from 40-120 mph. im not going to guess on cars because it wouldn't be right. but in the least. he wasn't happy at all.

so if you want to break your s2k in. come to kansas city. i'll show you how slow that car is that you "supposedly" paid over 30k for
. till you show pics and proof of it, and or the time slips from your gt. you are now a confirmed troll

Over the last months you have told various stories of which cars you have owned, own or will own to the point there is no credibility. Rather than produce any conclusive proof you come up with pretty rediculous answers as to why the car dejour is no longer. More importantly than that is your desire to be accepted here, to the point of almost begging in the Florida forum, and then slamming the board on other sites. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but in mine you have no credibility or ethics. Your "real class act" statement I found to be irony at its very finest.

My Spyder is well into the 12's, I haven't run it at the track yet, but it is much faster than my Veilside coupe was and that car ran 12.9. I'd say the Spyder runs at least a 12.5 :D

I have yet to run against a fast honda. In fact i am not sure there is one that is one that is currently running in our state.

Once you guys get a small taste of boost, you'll never go back.

By this time next week, with any luck the WRX will be deep into the 11s as i finally have found a turbo that is a bit of a better match for my addiction to boost.

Seriouslly this stuff gets in your blood. It starts out at like 14psi being a big deal. The torque is just so awesome as the turbo comes on full song. Then the next thing you know your running 16psi, then 16.5 and then 19.5psi(i made the pass in my sig on this boost) and then... well so far we are up to 25psi on the WRX...

As a general late night commentary and this one is getting pretty random, if you ever get the chance take a honda boy for a ride in a car with some decent torque. I am talking 350+ ft/LBS but closer to 400+ is better. I took one for a ride once, and thought they were going to mess my seats and pull my OS handle out of the roof when the boost came on. I had never seen someone grab on so tight.

anyway, back to the S2000 and what makes it suck. Its the glaring lack of torque which translates to some serious issues if your even just 500rpms out of the "power band," <--notice quotes, as something that small should not be called a band, and your screwed.

The short answere no. There really are not any great performance shops here in NM, and when you throw a rotary in the mix, it just gets worse. If i were you i would just stick to people that really know the 7, because its just too easy to screw these up if you do something wrong.

hey 3000GT/Stealth guys, how fast/slow are the SL models anyhow?

i'm asking cuz i always thought the SL was incredibly slow...164hp and 3000+lb curb weight or something like that, no?

i also got into two races with them when my car only had a K&N filter and pulled away from them at highway speeds. and my car is a high 16 second car! (automatic GTS). it picks up well enough from 60-80 and 100-120 (4-speed gearing finally gets into that "power band" where it pulls as hard as a low-mid 15 second car). i actually got him by 80 but he pulled 2-3 carlengths by 95 when i drop out of the powerband and pull as hard as an 18 second car.i crawled up to him by 110-115 and got ahead of him by 120 and that turned into 2-3 carlengths by 125. then i dropped out of the powerband and stopped pulling. i know this guy was racing cuz people don't cruise at 120mph and his car was quite loud (as in, he was flooring it). it was a Dodge Stealth with a body kit. i dunno if it was auto or not i think it was manual from the sound of the shifts. i thought it might've been an R/T (looked pretty flashy and red) but...222hp (is that correct?) is pushing it, 164 makes more sense for this race :p.

then a 3000GT (SL and looked old like a POS) which i pulled 1-2 cars away by 80 on a roll from 55ish. i know he was on it too cuz he did a mini-burnout at a light in front of me (or tried, just spun the tires for 5 sec)

i'm asking because a friend of mine is seriously considering getting a used 3000GT SL or an older FC RX-7 and we were wondering what kind of quarter mile times these cars can run?

BTW, a good driver in a GTS 6-speed with I/E can run mid-high 14s. a great driver in good weather can shoot for low 14s. stock a 6-speed could run 14.8 or 14.9...a 5-speed GT could hit mid-high 15s stock. there's one crazy guy on here who hit 15.0 with his GT 5-speed. the automatic celicas are 16/17 second cars (both GT and GTS, latter mostly slowed by the 4-speed gearing and a 2000rpm powerband but otherwise can put out more power than some 15 second cars). posting that cuz someone on your board was saying they run 15.9 stock or something.

As for the S2000, granted it sucks ass for drag racing, but it'll tear up most autox courses or tracks. it's hard as hell to drive but it should be able to hit high 13s when launched properly. other than that, it's gearing and powerband go together fine so it's got some nice top-end pull. same with the other low torque, high revving 4 bangers to varying degrees. a VR4 is out of it's league unless it's got an insanely good driver with enough mods to hit mid 13s and the VR4 is STOCK and he gets some good luck.

The SL has 222 HP and is usually a low 15 second car, there are some out ther that run high 14's stock though :)

The autos are about a second slower, the base 3000GT from 97-99 had the SOHC engine with only 164 HP.
