They said my 18" wheels were too big. They took it to another tire place and they said that my car was too low and they couldn't get it on the rack. Ain't that some sh*t. I had to take my lunch break to get my factory wheels (one is flat) so they can align my car and then they are going to put my 18"s back on. That's messed up.

Your 18" wheels and tires are shorter than your stock combo? If not, how is changing the tires going to help?

Same thing happened to me with my 17s. It was right after I put em on too. Had to switch em out, get the alignment, then switch back again. Pain in the ass.

My bet would be that it has to do with the diameter of the wheels, my step owns an auto shop and he has to have extensions to use the rack on larger wheels, since no toyotas(i cant think of any at least) have 18" wheels, they wouldnt have a need for the extentions...sux to hear about the alignment man.

most shops should have a set of 2x8's or something to help low cars get on the rack. and you know the shops that have this have worked on lowered cars before

I have 17x8 and never had a problem getting the car aligned at the dealer. I do have to take off my kaminari front bumper to get on the lift tho. :D

same thing happened to me, too low... 18's...

i ended up going to Bear Frame in La Puente, very nice lil shop that has a pit area... not a laser alignment, but they took their time and i watched them quite a bit, very careful work...

I don't know if this sheds any light on it, but my neighbor used to work as a mechanic at the local Toyota dealer. He has a 91 MR2 with 17s on it. The machine couldn't do an alignment with those wheels on the car. That's why he kept his stock wheels. Any time he'd do an alignment, he'd put the stock wheels back on the night before, and drive the car to work the next day to do it. It can't be BS if the a mechanic is having to do that to align his own car. I don't recall seeing him have a problem with getting on a lift even though it was lowered with a front end body kit.

if u go to a dealership that sells lexus, and if u have 18 inch rims, they can do it. my friend has 18's on his car and they did the alignment with the machine they use for the SC430 which has 18's, and the SC430 is pretty low, and this guy didnt have any probs, i have 17's on mine with springs, and a kit, i havent had an alignment done yet with a kit, i dunno if they can do it or not. seems like a pain in the ass, plus i need an alignment bad. peace. jonathan

I've never had a problem getting an alignment. Then again, I'd never let a dealer or a "chain store" place touch it with a 10' pole.
