Is there a break-in period for new tires?

I was wondering if there's such a thing as a break-in period for brand new rubber...

Reason I'm asking is I might be getting new rubber and might have to take it long driving right away (approx 3 hours at 60+). If there is a break-in period how long does it last?

i know there is for motorcycle tires..100mi usually. Dunno about car tires.

Most people say that you should put about 300-500 miles on a tire before pushing it hard.
