im still breaking in my celica and it only has 570 miles. I really want to put mileage on the car but the only way I can see myself doing that is by going on the freeway. I understand that I will have to go over the speed of 60 mph when driving on the freeway. Is this ok for the celica? The book says i shouldn't exceed 4k rpm and 60 mph. Wouldn't it be fine if I went 70 mph on the 5th gear because the rpm wouldn't exceed 4000? Sorry for all these newbie questions but i really want to break in the car well. Many thanks in advance.

Your car will be fine as long as you keep the engine under the 4000 rpm. Once or a few time to 4500 won't hurt it either......
60 mph is bull sh1t............ only the rpm is important
So, don't worry, you can drive the freeway.............................

Actually, if you want to break the car in well, you should really avoid highway driving because it is also really important to vary your speed and rpm's. Getting on the highway and setting the cruise control is a really bad way to break the engine in. You need to drive around at different speeds and engine rpms to do it right.

but yeah, keep it under 4000rpms, maybe 4500, thats how I did it... sometimes I actually go to 5000, I think I messed up there... but then I got an oil change at 1000-1100 miles and no problems at all.... cept really small clinking and clanking sounds from my exhaust.... I'll watch if it gets bad.. I sure hope not. Break in period sucked... I got passed up by a Geo Metro and I raced an old a** previa shifting at 4000 rpms.... didn't work.. I got owned. so at 5th gear I took it to 5000 and beat it.
In Canada, it's 1600 km. Holy sh1t, that's gonna' take a long time of city driving. I've put on a couple hundred km in a few days but at this rate it's going to take around a month! But the good thing about breaking it in in the city is that I'm pretty much bound by the speed limit so that'll help avoid tickets and let me break 'er in. But it's a bit of a drag not being able to get on the highway. I've got around 1300 km to go!

The Head Tech at my dealership came to a meeting for new car owners, and he said that the only thing to worry about was to not put the engine under a huge load, and to constant varry the RPM's. He said, basically you don't want to put it on CC and drive it on a long trip. A few miles down the freeway at a constant 75mph isn't going to do anything bad durring break in.

DT...
u asked this question over and over bro....
it is aite if u go over 60mph... but dont keep it constant at certain speed tho, until u hit like 1000miles on ur ride... alternate ur gears and frequently change speed not to exceed 4500 rpm and 70mph.... yes go on the freeway but keep above listed in mind... i didnt really broke in my ride that great but it still runs nice.. i got 31000 miles on it now after 1yr and 4month of ownership and i can tell u after having 25000miles of freeway mileage, the car is running dang smooth.... i usually put like 10000 miles every 6months and most of them are freeway miles!
oh one more thang,
u r not the Real DT r u? i heard they live in Fullerton...if iam not mistaken... i kno Steve Yoo's a$$ live in Fullerton tho..

well... let's see.... i left the dealership, put 350 miles on the car immediately driving down to LA, i kept going between gears, reving up to 7000, 7500, but not stomping on the gas
i had over 1000 by the end of 2 days.
30,000 miles later, my car is doing just peachy

Just make sure to speed up and slow down. Don't let the revs stay in one place for too long.
