HAving the all so famous belt squeaks/ rattles and the belt tensioner cricket sounds.
This is a question for those who succesfully fixed this defect.
Did you replace the serpentine belt? My dealer says there is no such thing. His obvious intention is to just lube it.

Also my clutch is squeaky. Lubed it but to no avail.
What needs to be replaced here?
is it throwout bearing?

If you got a part no or advise to how to expedite the fix as to what exactly to have checked. Would be much appreciated.

Apparently..after talking to the dealer..THIS is a very common problem for the Celicas..

They've replaced 3 already plus mine. That dude is giving you a load of crap. I tried using that GUNK stuff..but that didn't work..so I took it to the dealership.

What mine ended up being was the belt tensioner(I believe the alternator one?).

They replaced it free of charge with the warranty...and mine is a 2000.

They also replaced my belt...because it was glazed over from being all funky cuz of the tensioner problem.

If your dealership doesn't replace that bad boy free of charge...I'd call the head honchos and complain.

That's complete bull.

Anyways...since I got it fixed(the squeaking was SEVERE as in HURT MY EARS SEVERE!!), it's been nothing but clear sailing ever since...NOT TO MENITON...I notice a DEFINITE power improvement.

The belt must have been slipping or something..cuz when I hit the gas..I GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Get it fixed, dude. Pronto.

This is a defect that I never had with any other cars. i wonder why it is so prevalent.

The belt that needs replacement, is that commonly called the timing belt?

I just got this done from my dealer. Had to go in twice.

First time the receipt said something like: refaced (or something like that) belt -- this kinda worked for a couple days. The squeek was less pronounced but still there.

Second time the receipt said (I have it right here so this is word for word):

Squeeling noise from engine when starting (it was actually after starting but whatever)
Insufficient tension from tensioner shock
Replace tensioner and belt

Part #: 16620-22031 Tensioner Assy, V Warrenty
Part #: 90916-02310 Belt, V-Ribbed Warrenty

Hopes that helps

No it's not the timing belt. You would have real problems if it was the timing belt (actually the Celica has a timing chain but whatever).

kinda of a late add in question, but do you know if this belt tensioner problem needs to be fixed. This has happened to me four times since I've had the car. I have a 2000 GT. I'm almost due for my 30k oil change and was thinking about it. Funny thing is, that it goes away after a day or so. I read somewhere here that it's weather related.

Yeah I had the same problem but only on a couple of cold mornings. Then when I went to the dealership to inquire it wasn't happening since it just happened to be warm the next day. Basically they said that they can't fix it unless they can hear the problem to determine what is wrong. This makes sense and all but the problem hasn't occured since.

I'm probably going to the dealer at the end of this week to have them replace my belt.

They gave me some BS that I have to remove my Intake and put the stock airbox back in. Is this true? They said they are not responsible for putting my intake back in properly if they need to remove it....but my question is, will they have to remove it to get to my belts? It's on the other side of the engine bay!

Thats bull**** I had my belt replaced 2 times already and is making the same noise again it goes away for a month and then comes back, so I'm gonna go in every 3 months or so and keep on getting it reaplced (which I really don't wanna do cause I don't trust those ****s with the car.)
and yes the belt is on the left side.

I had the serpentine belt tensioner issue too. My car sounded like it had a pint sized diesel engine under the hood but performed fine. According to the dealer I went to, the tensioner was loose, causing the belt to rattle. The alternator pulley also became loose and started to wear irregularly. So they replaced the tensioner, the belt and the alternator pulley. My car sounds good as new. And runs better than new.
