ok so e recently put in my new cai and noticed that there was a hid ballast. so my 2001 gt celica has oem hids right? only the high beam bulb looks to be an hid so if i wanted the low beams to be hids i would need a whole new kit right? im thinkin about gettin hids and needs some help. and also can you swap out the oem 3000k yellowish highbeam buld for, say a 6000k? or would you need a kit for that too? any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

theres no such thing as HID high beams from stock Oem Toyota (if your low beams inserts are solid silver you dont have HIDs, if your low beams have silver with dotted holes you have HID headlights-also the ribbed look can tell if they are stock oem hid headlights)
but to answer your question yes. you need separate ballast and bulbs for high beams and low beams
depending on what bulb size it is (D2S or H7) can determine the color temp because D2S usually stick around 3000k-5000k while H7 runs from 3000k-20000k
if you already have the ballast you can swap out bulbs as long as its the same bulb size
changing color temps does not need new ballasts

Plus, only the 03+ had the OEM HID option available
post up pics, it would help alot.
I hope you're not referring to that greyish box with the lines all over it, as the ballast.

dont believe the HID option was for the GT model and it only was for the 03+
you dont need HID for your high beam all your doing is shortining the life span of the bulb.

question... been researching because i would like to purchase sum HID's for my 03 gt celica this week or tomorrow but am not fimiliar at all with HID's. Just know that they seem like a better bulb then the OEM ones. Well I've been searching and I found this site on one of the threads. http://www.vvme.com/product/detail-20023.html
Would that HID kit work for my car even though its cheaper than most kits. Does the price matter of the life spand for HID kit? dunno if i said it right hopefully you guys can help. Sorry and appreciate any help.
