Okay. So I decided on the Nikon D90.

I want a standard lens and a wide angle lens.
What do I look for in a lens?
Anything in particular?
Some things I need to keep in mind?
Kind of a novice here.
Any help is nice.

When you buy a lens, you should be looking at the image stabilization systems, image quality, distortion, chromatic aberration, focus speed and accuracy of the lens. And of course, unless your pocket is bottomless, the price of the lens would be a huge factor as well.

For your wide angle lens, you have to consider how wide you want it to go.

And what do you mean as a standard lens? Something like an everyday walkaround lens?

mrluilou can probably recommend some specific lenses for you. Otherwise just google it and make sure to read lens testing reviews and whatnot before you throw away your money.

^what do you consider wide? :gap:
nikon just released their new 10-24mm nikkor lens but that'll set you back almost $1000. i recently got a tokina 12-24 f/4. i suggest you register onto nikoncafe.com

Actually, I have to admit that Nikon's flash system is quite superior to Canon's. I like how you can remotely control their speed lights without the need of an additional controler. The bodies with built-in flashes have the ability to communicate the settings to multiple speed lights, giving you full control of the flashes directly from the body. Kick ass for a make shift studio!

Their VR lenses are no joke either.

I've heard that the 18-200mm vr lens is a great walk around lens. I use my 28-105mm as my walk around lens. I highly suggest you get the 50mm 1.8 nikkor lens because its a great portrait lens and comes in handy in low light settings

Haven't had the chance to try out any IS (or for that matter, L) series lenses. :sadpace:

you should try to pick up the tokina 12-24. that's a pretty wide angle lens that isn't too expensive.

standard lens that a lot of people pick up first is the 50 1.8.

i heard the 70-200 is a nice VR lens but it's super expensive.

my walk around lens is my tamron 17-50 2.8.

70-200mm
you can get the tokina 12-24 f/4 for $400 brand new, if you want the sigma 10-20 it'll cost you $420. I've read that the sigma is not as sharp as the tokina though.

mostly because they have an internal stability system and they have a really high constant aperture. for example, the nikon 17-55mm 2.8 is worth over $1100 just because of the 2.8
