A tripod would be great. Congrats on the XSi!

You're using the kit lens, right? It's got a decent aperture value but still not good enough for low light settings, which is apparent in that fireworks shot.

Play around with it and you'll get the hang of the features and settings.

Well its the canon 75-300mm EF lens, already looking for 2 more lenses that I've been wanting.. I just want to get better and like you said play around more :)

Yep, a tripod is a must when shooting fireworks. Ideally, you'd want to put your camera in Bulb mode and use a remote shutter release (keep the shutter open during the duration of the explosion). You just set the focus on your lens to inifinity and aim it where you expect the fireworks to go. If you want to see what the fireworks look like using that method, check out my fireworks photos that I posted on page 2 of my photo thread.

My settings for those shots were bulb and f/8.

Canon makes an infrared remote that is only about $20 bucks, I highly recommend it.
I think its good for up to 15 feet away.

It's an attachment that allows you to activate the shutter without touching the camera. Here's a Canon branded remote shutter release for you camera at Amazon.

Looks good, I don't take photographs and don't know much about cameras, but I paint and draw and since you asked, my advice to you is - pick out your scenes; its easy to take a picture of what you like, but the trick is to present it; I think you lack some of that; of course not every moment can be staged or altered, so work on your angles, use of space and proportions. For example: if your object of interest has a very busy background and poor lighting like that beautiful tiger, you could put the background out of focus and have the tiger stand out like the photograph of the girl. Play around with use of space and proportions - it's not necessary to have an object bluntly in the middle of the photo and your works of art will come alive when your objects take up more than 20% of the picture. My favorite one is the girl

when i take rolling shots i keep the aperture set at around f/11 or /12, the shutter speed would depend on lighting

For the moon, put your camera in full manual mode, then set your aperture to f/8, and your shutter to 1/400 to start. These settings will vary depending on what stage the moon is in. If it's really bright, you may need to stop down some, and if it's not as bright you'll need to open up a bit. The key here is to NOT let the camera meter for the moon.
