View Full Version : Best Order for Mods?

Most of my current nestegg was sunk in just getting the gts and now making the monthly pymts. I did get the s2000 antenna (looks cool) so now I wonder in what order I should add mods. It's going to take a long time so I need to do a little here and there.

I totally don't like the height (stock gts) but wonder if I'll have any probs by getting springs (struts, camberkit too?) cause I'm in snowy Ontario, Canada. I would eventually like some kind of front and rear bumper and side skirts. Would it look ghey to get one piece at a time such as a cool front bumper first? Then maybe rear bumper or side skirts? If you were me, on a tight budget and couldn't afford a kit, what order would you mod the body in?

Finally, would it be best to lower the car first before other appearance mods? Would it look stupid (I know it's a personal thing but indulge me) to work on the front, back, and sides without dropping the car?

Lower it first, then go intake. Just my opinion.

For the exterior go in this order if you are looking for the full package...lowering springs, wheels, bodykit, but think about the practicality of driving in snowy conditions in your area first.

As for the bodykit, if you cannot afford the entire kit do not buy one piece at a time since you'd eliminate the cost savings associated with buying an entire kit. Cost is a concern in your case (as it is in mine as well) so save up to buy an entire kit. The only way this does not work is if you are set on buying parts of particular kits to form a full kit. Based on your description of your financial situation however, I would not recommend that method. Also, check into Bat's vinyl overlays for a cheap exterior appearance option.

As for mods under the hood, a short ram intake (which remains away from water from the environment) may be your best option due to the weather. If you do not plan on driving in inclement weather, opt for a cold air intake (it takes air from near your wheel well). Maybe a strut bar would work since its rather cost effective.

ok for mods, do performance first (Intake, exhaust, springs) they're the basic 3, I've always been under the idea that make the car fast and then make the car "look fast" b/c if you get a kit with the stock ride height and wheels it looks like as$, (my opinion. now with mods, you could go with a short ram intake as mentioned above (no risk of sucking up air) and with exhaust i'd go with something not atrociously loud but something that sounds good, with springs unless you want to replace struts (expensive) i'd go with TRD, Eibach or something of that sort, if you get Ground Controls, or Skunk2's your car wont ride correctly b/c your shocks think they have full travel when in reality it has been severely limited.

Now with the kit, you can purchase it in pieces, but please OH PLEASE do not put it onto your car unless you have every piece and its painted, we dont need celica's driving around with unpainted kits. (you can put it onto your car to fit it)

i've actually written a few pages at work about the do's and dont's of modifying so if you want me to post them let me know.

If i've helped at all its good. if you have any more questions i'm not hard to find

Usually, if I get enough response for a particular thing, such as my new h6 Headlight Overlay, I will do a kit. Check your PM;).

1. Drop
2. Rims
3. Kit AND Exhaust AND/OR Spoiler

Everything else doesn't matter.
Just don't mix around anything. engine stuff can be done right away or later...becasue who looks at the engine when you're driving anyways? (unless you got a clear hood or drive around w/o one...like hector on f&f)

some ppl might disagree and say: speed before looks. but IMO, i think you can do either or both. i'm in for looks now, then going for speed.

i started by spending a lot of money on little crap, but i think its essential.

like:
s2000 antenna,
clear corners,
some superwhite parking, blinker, & wedge bulbs,
redded tails,
tint,
indiglos,
grilles,

i think most of these are needed to get rid of ugly stock stuff, and some are cheap addons that help.

after that, maybe an alarm? always nice for security and keyless entry. then its time to go bodykit ALL AT ONCE and an extended exhaust at the same time.
