I just got my Dec. 3rd Autoweek (the one with the Audi Avantisimo on the cover) and I just read on the first page that Toyota has shown a 236hp, 3L mr2, and get this a 2L 197hp Celica. Also something about a TRD tuned Echo and a 148hp Yaris.

Wasn't that Toyota's original plan to use a 2L 200hp engine in the Celica?

Toyota sure has taken the power out of their line up these days. The MR2 is frail. The Celica GT-S is the best thing going at the moment. Supra is bye bye. No production turbos. I'd like to see them bring some power back.. :(

That is all they had about the Celica, the rest of the article aminly focused on some turbo 1.8L 255hp Mr2 with a new F1 inspired body and IS300 with a supercharged 4.3L V8 from the LS 430. They say the IS is ment to go against the new BMW M3 and AMG C32. Oh and they also said that TRD had until the end of this year to decided whether or not to bring a tuned Echo over to the US(hmm Roxy Echo vs. TRD Echo, sounds like a good battle). Oh and they said they didn't know more about the v6 mr2.

They said it was a turbo 2.0l, right? only 197HP, though, that's weak.
i dont understand what the big deal is with companies lower displacement?? like its a goal now to see which company can make the smallest engine with the most power.. screw that, give it a little more displacement and alot more power :) torque is a good thing..

Woops, forgot to mention that it was a turbo engine. Yeah, that does sound rather weak, mabye it was a misprint? Does anyone have anymore info about this? David Draper?

Maybe its 197 to the wheels? I would think just giving it .2 more litres should make that extra 17 HP. considering we are already getting 100hp per litre. That just sounds de tuned if they indeed put a turbo on it...Any more info on this Turbo'd celica?

the Celica All-Trac Turbo made 190 bhp.
MR2 Turbo made 200 bhp

what about torque numbers, hp numbers aren't everything. It should make some nice torque if it's a turbo.

unless they shoehorned that v8 into the IS, i think it's just talk.

I saw on some TTE website, listing their attractions at that show, and they said watch for their 200PS 1.8l turbo Celica. There is nothing on that show's (Essen Motorshow) website as far as pics and info.
