So Far i have taken out the panels and tightned every screw in sight. I did change my exhaust to the TRD. Perhaps it is the heat shield. DId you change yours?

if it is the creaking sound it is natural in our 2000's. The center body has a weld and has a tendency to flex when going over bumps. I just learned to live with it. SUX.

Well mine squeaked over bumps and the hatch cover had lost its pad that laid on the plastic. See if that moved or is gone and if so replace...

It's supposedly in the passenger side C-pillar. There is no way for it to be repaired since it is inside the pillar, and is impossible to get to without hacking the car up seriously.

He's right. I remember keeping track of a discussion on this a couple of months ago, because my 2000 GT-S does the exact same thing, and it's REALLY annoying.
does anyone with a 2001 have this problem as well? i have a 2001 and my rear squeaks.. but i always thought it was the trd springs that were doing it. now having second thoughts

I have the same or similiar problem... When the rear chasis flexes, I hear this loud and annoying creaking sound...
However, good luck trying to get Toyota to solve the problem. In my case, I have taken my car into Toyota five times. The sound is still present and I am cuurently involved in Arbitration to get this problem fixed.
My car should not sound like it it is falling apart. I started Arbitration in February of this year and I am still involded in it - Canada does not have a lemon law. My expirience is way too long to post.
This is soooo frustrating paying 30K for a car and having to deal with this for over a year.
Good luck.

My 2000 gts had a rear squeak it was the rear wing. Two bolts were gone the other two were loose. Tightned them up and no squeak. 10mm if I remember correctly. Just take out the screw holding the hatch handle pop off the valance and you will see the wing screws

Does anyone with the TRD or Hypermotive rear strut bar have the squeak? The bar stiffens up the chassis near the C-pillar, so I'm just wondering if this could be a possible solution to the noise.

FYI,
My car is basically stock except for some appearance mods... I have read a lot of posts over the last two years and this seams to be a problem with the 2000 and 2001 models - manufacturing problem.
The sound that I am hearing is a creaking sound coming from the triangular passenger window.
I do not believe that the problem is caused by two loose bolts on the rear wing. The problem is somewhere around or inside the passenger side B-pillar.
This is a very weird and frustrating problem.
Just recently Toyota flew one of thier top technicians in from Toyota Canada's head office to diagnose the problem. I really thought they had fixed it this time but it was too good to be true. About a week later, the sound came back.
I my case I couldn't stand this annoying sound and the lack of quality in this vehicle. So, I decided to stick up for my right as a consumer to get a defective product repaired or replaced.
After reading so many posts about this similiar creaking sound, it hard not to think that there was a manufacturing defect in some 2000 and 2001 models of the Celica.
What I wrote above is my expirience only and I made a point of getting the defect properly diagnosed - even though it took many, many, many visits to multiple dealerships. I will get this problem address by Toyota of Canada.

I wish I would have caught it or heard about it before I got the car. That's the one thing I hate. It was barely out of warranty(although I have 100k powertrain), so there's really not anything I can do about it. But it's annoying as hell, I'll tell you that. It's definitely a defect in the build of the car, and I've never had anything like this happen with any of my Toyotas in the past.
