I really dont think +47 lb of torque is gonna pull/push? that car faster than a celica if it has 400 pounds more weight to carry. And don't forget about drivetrain loss. After seeing what happened to the sentra ser spec-v, I highly doubt hyundai is gonna pull off a very efficient engine.
And 180hp out of a v-6 is freakin weak.

Holy hell..that's TIGHT.

If it's a V6...dual exhausts are NOT ricey.

Not even close...my Grand Am GT has got dual exhausts...the note on my car simply sounds phenomenal when I stomp on the gas...not to mention it helps.

As long as it's not a damn four cylinder, dual exhausts are a good idea.

Now on the other hand..if your 4 cylinder is pushing out 250 horses..who the hell cares if you've got dual exhausts...besides the people that are staring at them while you kick their ass.

The overall shape is nice, and the rear looks pretty good; only thing I'll change is the headlamps. But, at the end of the day, it's still a Hyundai. <IMG SRC="http://www.theunholytrinity.org/cracks_smileys/contrib/sarge/Grin_anim.gif" border=0>

I like it alot. The side windows are identical to the RSX and the doors look like the Mustang though. Yeh, I thought it was to have a 200hp v6.

11-07-2001, 08:53 AM
car looks very nice http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

but i have to call BS on APC...what kind of race did they stage? 0-30?

the GTS has same horsepower, less torque, but weighs a whopping 400lbs. lighter. also i'd bet money the GTS has better drivetrain loss, remember edmunds did a dyno on their stock GTS and got only a 11% loss? the average is 15%.

there is no question in my mind a GTS should pull away from a TibGT as soon as the revs got high.

that said, the RSX-S is supposed to be faster than a GTS. so wtf? i say they didn't know how to drive a honda.

also, why the hell would you need a 6-speed in a V6-powered car? the powerband's gonna be nice and wide, you don't need a 6-speed. hell, a 4-speed could probably stay in the powerband (but i dunno if they'd offer it in auto, shame. plenty of torque, and nice wide powerband, would mate well with an auto tranny without losing too much performance). it's obvious this is a real gimmick, and nothing more. while the GTS and RSX-S have the excuse of having a narrow 6000-8000rpm powerband and need the many short gears to stay in there, hyundai has no reason to put a 6-speed in there (and if there's no auto option, moreso) other than generate hype/sales.

hyundai has some good marketing tactics. while toyota commercials are about looking fast or silly spokespeople, hyundai's directly comparing two cars, favoring their own in commercials. the average person would be hard-pressed not to go for it. this is just another one.

but once you drop a turbo or a s/c onto this sucker, it'll be all over. with a V6 and probably lower compression than the RSX-S and GTS, it'll love boost. and compared to turbo cars, 2900lb curb weight isn't that bad. plus then the 6-speed would finally be worth it.

You guys and your love for the dual exhaust, I bet it's not even a true dual exhaust set up, just like the v6 accord and the pontiac's it's not true dual, it's the stupid split pipe....it's there for looks http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif

If it really is a 2.7l it sounds like it got it's legs chopped out from under it. 181hp is pretty weak. Might be an interesting project car if you're bored and like V6s. It definitely has a clean look to it. I'd get this over the new Eclipse and RSX for sure. With a lot of love someone could make it into a serious sleeper.

IF a 6-speed is pointless on the Hyundai V6 then why would GM have it on the Firebirds, Camaros and Corvettes? Maybe Hyundai or whoever worked on the car tested it both ways with a 5-speed and with a 6-speed. I think they actually have both a 5-speed and 6-speed. JUST like the Celica or RSX. But the 6-speed is on the Tiburon GT (or Celica GT-S, or RSX Type-S). Also remember 6th gear on vettes and birds is mainly for cruising nothing more.

On a final note maybe the 6-speed tranny is stronger and built better. Who knows at less than $21k i'd rather buy that and spend $3k on mods and blow any mildly modded RSX or Celica out of the water AND for CHEAPER!

I think that **** looks tight. If I was in the market now for a car I would honestly give it serious consideration. Its hyundai so you figure its gonna be cheaper than its competitors. If it does have 200hp v6 or whatever lets say it cost 18k fully loaded. Thats a steal. Hell I probably wouldn't own it for more than 4 years anyway so I know it would be good for at least that.

The cars styling is awesome. Its a nice ride.

Still not a GTS though http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif

If I was to buy a car, the Tiburon would be it! I would wait until it came out. I've owned 2 Hyundai's (orginal pony and excel) and they were both excellent cars! Never had a problem with them other than when I tried to race a Porsche in the Excel and managed to blow the engine but that was near the end of it's life. It toke 7 years of outdoor parking, driving in rain, snow, slush and salt for the first sign of rust to show up on the body. If the current Tiburon looked like the Celica's now, I would've bought the Tiburon last year.

WTF? i think people needs to have some respect for other cars, i drive celica and i like it a lot but i dont bash every other car other than celicas......

i think its looks pretty tite

On a final note maybe the 6-speed tranny is stronger and built better. Who knows at less than $21k i'd rather buy that and spend $3k on mods and blow any mildly modded RSX or Celica out of the water AND for CHEAPER!

all of those cars would make do with a 5-speed very easily without losing much performance at all.

also as far as i know there is no aftermarket for the new tiburon yet. the celica's is slow as hell, but it's there, and it'll pick up a bit of momentum within a few months.

besides, best mod you can do to the celica is the driver http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif what can you do to that car, other than NOS or forced induction (which will not be available, or under $3000) that'll have it run low 14s? and ETs aside, even tho the 177lb/ft. of torque will help it out, it's not likely to trap more than low 90s with only that much horsepower and curb weight (stock). the GTS and RSX-S can easily trap mid 90s or sometimes higher stock (Especially the RSX-S i heard).

i guess we'll see when it's out. but seriously, how can you expect a car that weighs a few hundred pounds heavier, and has 20 LESS horsepower, but has 30-40 more lb/ft. of torque to beat an RSX-S by "a few carlengths"? they must've done a 0-60 with a bad driver in the RSX is the only way i think it could happen.

Come on now. I'm sure there is alot you can do to this car. I would tend to believe that the car does not have the sleeves that the celi has in the cylinder. And, seeing the relatively low numbers on the V6, I'd say it would adapt well to a mild bore, and stroker kit. Which would more than make up for a measly 400lbs. Rember people, f/i and NOS is not the only option out there....

I have to laugh at the people not liking it because its korean or its a hyundai, thats what people used to say about japanese cars and toyotas not to long ago. Give the car a chance before you decide.

and i love the way it looks
