so aparantly when i installed my clutch and flywheel, the flywheel was tight enough cuz it came loose and i guess threw the crank off balance and thats what made my oil pump come apart, said the dealer. it was barely drivin like that, the dealer said it could have caused damage to the bearings, and they then asked who did they clutch and i said i did it, then they said yea your gonna need a short block cuz the crank is damaged. do you think there is a possibility that they could just torque everything up right and it could work or are they just trying to steal more money?

dealership sounds scary... i'll nvr go there unless i have warrenty :nono: but to me after all the stuff they told you to fix and now short block too seems a lil too much, but then again i dunno that much. good luck w/ your car.

Why did you bring have to bring it to the dealer?
Chris, sorry 2 hear about all of this, but even if you did need a newer shortblock, i wouldn't have them do it just because they're labor is just over the top, ridiculously expensive, although, the good part is that they can warrenty it . . . how much are they asking to put a shortblock in there?

do not go dealer. alot of what they said is BS!!!. once you said you installed it is when they saw dollar signs and said you need a new short block. take it to another mechanic for another estimate but the cheapest way to know if you have done serious damage is to drop the pan and look for metal shavings/flakes and or metal chunks in the oil. if you have shavings/flakes your ok youll just need to replace the pump and bearings if you have metal chunks youll need a new short block.

Always get a second opinion. I do see their logic about a loose flywheel causing vibrations and what not, but untill you take the block apart and inspect you don't know if it's as bad as they say.

yea i reused the flywheel bolts and thats why they came loose, shouldve researched that beforehand, and there were chunks of metal in my oil pan from the pump which the dealer replaced, they wanted 4000 for the shortblock but im just having them put new flywheel bolts in and seeing if thats all the was bad

after you get your car back do an oil change emidiatly to see if you have metal shavings in the oil. if you do then you still have problems, if you dont then your lucky.

I don't have a good feeling about this, you can still have metal shavings in the engine waiting to do some more damage. Hopefully I'm wrong.

For me it's a rule of thumb to replace any hardware I remove on something I feel that's important. Most of the time manuals will state which hardware to replace as well.
4000 for the shortblock  You can get a complete engine w/a new shortblock from MWR for that price. I'm assuming that was including install?

Not to mention that you can get a brandnew stock shortblock from MWR for 1700 and have it installed by a competent shop for 1200 and still have 1100 left for other stuff.

what's the differences between a short and a regular block?

shortblock = bottom end only. longblock = top and bottom
If you get a used block from MWR or want to toss a new shortblock or whatever combo in, let me know and i'll hook you up man. Heck, i'm even tempted to see if they even pulled the trans to see if the flywheel bolts are loose or not, or if they are just guessing at that's what's causing it.
