View Full Version : May be old news, but damn funny
I read this at Popular Hot Rodding's website:

From an editor's perspective, it was fun to watch guys learn that oil temp is as important as engine temp. They get flat-out smoked by the Hotchkis Celica, which turned in quicker than any road car I've ever seen--thanks to a lightweight package with shocks, springs, bars, camber, adjustment plates, strut tower bar, rear camber links, and very little muscle. While none of us at PHR are fans of imports, getting beat by the Celica shows how much of a challenge it is to get a heavy car around the track and how making reliable power that can be put to the ground is the biggest substitute. And, at least we have style...
That last line is my fave :D

Yeah, that Hotchkis Celica is amazing. What's extraordinary is that the only engine mod is the TRD exhaust.

According to the SCC article, they have the stock intake in it.

How much you want to bet that "in the right hands" that Z06 behind it is faster?
I didn't know it had one either, but then I checked out the car a little closer. This is from hotchkistuning.com
The car you see here began life as a Celica GTS Car. The crew applied their magic and thus begun the transformation into the Project GTS that you see here. Starting with the suspension, as they're using this car as a development platform, they installed performance coil springs, stabilizer bars, camber plates and links, full race type coil over shocks and struts and shock tower bracing.
Deeming that this car needed the best of everything, Hotchkis called upon the expertise of several different companies. Handling the rubber, the car uses Yokohama Parada 225/40-18's all the way around and Advan Model - 6 wheels painted purple to match the graphics. Now, with all this handling prowess, Stop-Tech was called to provide a massive braking system suitable to bring this car down from high speed. The subtle body kit and wild graphics package is from Molly Designs along with a functional rear decklid spoiler. The interior has been given the full custom treatment. The seats were torn aparts and re-skinned with Red and Carbon Fiber leather. A range of dash parts were laminated with real carbon fiber. Dash pods were fabricated to house some extra AutoMeter gages, sitting right on top of the dash bezel, so the driver can see them easily. Underneath, the exhaust has been upgraded with a TRD muffler and tailpipe. Breathing has been improved with an HKS intake system. In the traction dept, a TRD limited slip differential will keep the tires from spinning wildly in tight corners, allowing the car to really burn up the track. Future plans include more power (of course!), a 6 point roll cage and 5 point seat harnesses. The GTS will be shown at this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV in Hotchkis' booth as their premier vehicle. Look for this car to appear on the newstand in many national publications
I'ld like to say "hi" to my boy Oldster. ;)

Actually that is the first model of the car they did.
The hotchkis Celica in the SCC article is a 2002 with NO intake modifications... check it out here:

here's a link to the page that explains the reason WHY the hotchkis Celica's straight line performance suffers vs the project celica and the Celebrity celica... because it has the premature rev limiter...

Honestly Bo I'm confused as hell about this. I mean, the thing is though, and the key factor to me is that they talk quite abit about the rev limiter....
Things that make you go hmmmm.

Can the Hotchkis suspension kit be purchased for our Celica's?
edit - nevermind, yes it can, for over $3000. It's on their site.

I went to HKS to see if they are listing anything for the Celica but can't get their parts catalog (PDF) to download correctly so no help there.
I was about to just pick up one of their filters for use on my cai, but I was worried as I heard that even though, you may get a hint of more power, the filtration wasn't as good as the cotton ones. But then, about half of the mods that I have on my Celica are one offed. CAI, Exhaust, interior, brakes and grills. Now add body kit/flares and engine/drivetrain. So I don't think the HKS catalog would help much. The best thing to do would be just ask them. But, I don't really care enough to take the time out to send an email right now. :/ Too lazy. Instead, I'll check out some more threads. :)
