Here are a few pics and a sample of what is to come. It's a fairly simple process but it took me about 3 hours for just that one piece. I plan on doing just about the entire center piece(flat black). Should be very nice when complete, and I have a feeling it won't be coming off for a long time.
Sorry for the bad pics. Had to use my camera phone.

Let me know if anyone wants to know the process in full detail. I suppose I could even do a write up when I start doing more.

You should do a two-tone for the interior...I'm not sure what the other color should be (I'm color blind, but definitely not that factory color) but the two-tone concept looks cool in that photo and it would be a waste not to change the main color of the rest of the interior when it could be a much better color...if that makes sense! Haha.
Edit: How do you plan on doing the air conditioning panel? Haha. It's got all those symbols all over it...

Awesome, give it a shot!

uh..yeah. I think I know what you're talking about lol. Sounds good but I'm having the same problem with thinking of another good color haha
And yes, that has haunted me many o' nights. The HVAC cover is a mystery. But I'll brainstorm until I figure out a suitable alternative.

Thanks bro. :gap:

That would be my interior lighting and under glow(before I ripped them off my car)switch. The interior lights still remain but the under glows were too ricey for me....

I'd like to know what took 3 hours..
There's much prep work involved(that's the most time consuming). And the painting process isn't the same as if you were spraying graffiti...

3hr process is pretty lengthy. all you need is some kind of solvent to clean the surface with really well then use the adhesion promoter before you paint it and it will work fine. when i did it that way it lasted 3 years before i lost the car and the paint hadent faded or chipped when it left my hands lol.

Well I guess for different people it takes longer...that's the only thing I can think of. I'm aware that I took my time but most of that tied in with the amount of time I let it sit between coats. And I did many of them, very thin ones. I actually used the entire can of adhesion promoter and the whole can of paint. Don't worry, not all that paint is on that piece haha I used VERY thin coats. But I think that is what's needed in order to get proper adhesion. But to each his own...
And yes trdmsprts27, a solvent is necessary. My process uses 3, all of which do different things. It seems to work pretty well.

i wasnt doggin ya bro. as long as the prep process is done correctly itll last a long time with no problem. if your useing 3 different solvents to clean the pieces then yea itll take a little longer lol. the curing time between each coat is a key factor as well lol. dont forget to clear coat it at the end.
As far as the HVAC area goes you can get a sticker thats already made to fit over those light up areas you can use before you paint then after you paint it you can remove the sticker and itll still light up.

Na, its cool bro. Just saying, it can certainly take some effort but I look at it as time well spent. Especially if you can get it so the final product looks good and doesn't flake or peel off.

Genius. I will definitely have to start searching for that. Thanks man :)
Oh and on a side note...I'll still do a good write up on the process but I noticed quite a few of you saying you're too lazy for this. So I figured if you wanted some pieces painted but weren't motivated enough...you can send them to me and I'll do it. For a fair price of course. :wiggle: I'll also practice more on my stuff so I can get the process down to the best it can be.
Just send me a PM or something, and we can talk about it.

K, thanks.
Also, about the clear coat...the only reason I'm hesitant on that is because even though most clear coats are designed for automotive use, they are mostly for exterior paint. Ive yet to see one that's noted to stretch and move like the vinyl and fabric paint does in order to adhere to interior pieces even when they constrict and expand. I'm afraid that if I do apply a clear coat, yes it will become less susceptible to scratches but also, it will crack and peel very easy...

His name is blitzceli but he does not make them anymore.
Nice job on the console silver_nations. I painted my console as well and it took the weekend pretty much. That was with me really taking my time though. I sanded and primed one evening and then painted and cleared the next day. Then on Sunday I wetsanded and polished everything so it would shine like the outside.

i've had bad experiences with the "interior" dupli color paint. Did my entire interior with it. Used 3m's adhesion promoter, 3m parts prep solvent, dupli color paint and dupli color flat clear and tack cloth so it's not like I didn't know what I was doing.
Quite simply it just does not stick that well to plastics, especially textured plastics in my experience.
Glad to hear you had a good run with it, my stuff chipped off tossing my backpack in the back seat, and people scuffing the doorsills.
Since my last trial with the dupli color I have re-done about half my interior with SEM's paint. My sub box constantly slams the side panels in the hatch and so far it's holding up to the abuse.
The worst part about painted interior is the dust that sticks to it...

beat me to it.
And sorry to say the right way to do it would be spraying it down with a gun and proper paint =p. For a rattle job though it looks good. I plan on setting up a spray booth next spring and redo all the panels with proper sanding and all that jazz. Not looking foward to it but the end result will be sexy!!!!!!!

I am having the same issue right now and hence why I am going to respray everything!

And thats why i am gonna do a flat clear 2 coats and that should help repell some of the dust.

Well you'll have to keep me up on how good that works out wakerider. And considering that people are having problems with the chipping on textured panels, I'll just paint the main center pieces(all of which are flat plastic). Then if all goes well with your process, perhaps I'll try that with the others :)
