How long does it take? I hear everything from 200-600 miles.

There is no such a thing as break-in anymore..
It's more of your own preferance..
I've been through that already... I've asked lots of people and said and summerize it...
Just think of break in period of 1000 miles..
Key is to drive and nice.. for whilre.. even after 1000.. just sometime.. redline it.... it's not gona do anything to do car.... unless you red line it all day long...
but it's your choice.. on break in... I just did some break in for like 1000 mile.. just out of my preference..

from what i was told, its about 1000miles of city traffic. stop and go. that way the clutch and the flywheel warp together. thats what i did. now i have a co-worker, that install'd a clutch, went to the drag strip 2 days later. did 5 runs and some hard launches on the street, ... 300 miles later it was slip'ing. so i was glad i listen'd. :gap:

wow!! 1000 miles? thats alot. The act clutch packaging says 200-300 miles. and the guy who did the install said 300-500...and now youre saying 1000!!! better safe than sorry i guess.

maybe its different from clutch to clutch, but i did do about 1000 miles before i put some hard shifts on the clutch.

on the act package it says 250 miles for the break in period.
why would it be 1000 miles???
i started getting on mine after about 350 miles but no hard launches yet.
ill wait a little longer till i do my 4500 slip launches... probally another week

Thanks guys. One more question...what can you do while in break in period? I mean, I know just keep the rpms low, but how low. Can I bring the clutch up to redline, or just not launch hard? And can I push the clutch pedal in and rev it to try out the flywheel? Thanks for the help.

Just 2 more hours and I pick up my baby with the clutch/flywheel installed!!!

what i did was just drive is slow and not take it to redline for atleast 250 miles.
i took it up to redline once at like 240 miles.
i drove it all day and the next day to get to the point.
dont do any hard launches for a while. i still havent done any and im at 480 miles right now.
im waiting a little longer to try those out but i take it into lift now just no hard launches.
when you get the act clutch it grips low so take it easy comming out of the tranny shop.
shift before 4k all the time and its fine to drive it on the freeway going 80 in six...
hope this helps

i really didnt keep the rpms low all the time, i just try'd to shift slow and smooth. no hard launches off the line. i did a few runs to the redline, but i didnt shift into the next gear quickly. yeah, you can press the clutch and rev the engine. doesnt do anything to the clutch, just dont drop it. but like x-evil-x says you can drive on the highway, but you're not using the clutch as much as in city traffic, so those mile wont count as much. you need to do the stop and go, so that the clutch is broken in. you'll notice over time that the clutch will ease up. cause at first i notice'd it was kinda hard to push the clutch in, and it would grab inch's off the floor. later the clutch loosen up and it still would grab off the floor.

maybe i was to careful with the 1000mile, but i guess it pay'd off in the end. done a few hard launches and very quick shift that would have kill'd the stock clutch unit. car still grabs hard and right every time. good luck with your setup.:)

Yup, just got it back, the clutch engages like inches off the floor, in fact when I first started, it wouldnt go into reverse without grinding until I got the floor mat out from behind the pedal. Cant you adjust this? Anyways I just got it back and started having problems overheating...*sigh* read this for whats up with that:

Anyways, a few questions. Will the idle go back up after a little while? On the way home I noticed it was idling very low and when I pushed the clutch in while moving the engine would not catch and then stall, will htis go away when the comp learns the flywheel? AND do you all feel a difference in acceleration with the new flywheel and broken in clutch? hope so, gotta fix this overheating and I can start break in.

well with the act i noticed, you have to have the clutch ALL the way down for it to idle normal...
if your up a little bit on it, it will go down because your letting out the clutch a little.
you'll get used to it.
you'll notice the difference between how fast the car revs just take it easy for a while(i know its a pain in the ass).
also it might of idled weird because when they drop the tranny they have to take out the intake and the battery.
so you got you car back and your clock was wrong right and the stereo was too. the ecu will relearn after a day or two.

damn, i didn't think about having to take out the intake....just a reason for it to get installed again..this time probably won't get lucky and have the cel all the time:(

yeah they have to take out a lot of the things in the way to get to it.
i noticed when i got back my car it was running funny on the way home too.
i took off the maf and tightened it down again and it ran fine after that.
