I'm thinking of buying this camera and I was just looking for your opinions on it. If you guys have any other cameras on mind that are about in the same price range and are better let me know please.

Thanks

I'm new to this, so I don't need anything fancy, just some beginner stuff :)

I just got a Rebel XSi and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it. You can find my pictures with it on my photograph topic page thing.

I'm new too :]

I would spend the extra 80 bucks and go with the Canon. I've never been too impressed with the image quality of the Sony DSLR's.

Hey guys I did some research about Canon XSi and Sony A230, both cameras got some good reviews, they both have good and bad sides to them, but overall they are decent entry level dslr's. If you had to get one which one would you get?
Tomorrow I'm heading to Bestbuy to take a closer look at each and hopefully I can make up my mind.

Cheapest Nikon is $660 just for the body, that would be a bit over budget. I'm going to bestbuy now to check the other two out now. Thank you for the input

new egg has it for 549.99 same price as the best buy, if you add few bucks for shipping it's bit better deal, but i have 18 months no interest in best buy and only 6 at new egg. Sony has dual slot, one for its memory stick, and other for sd/sdhc. I was looking to get 8 gig SanDisc Extreme III which is like 69.99 at new egg. I don't know if memory card speed affects camera in any case, like read/write speeds

I've stated this before, but I would highly recommend that you go with Canon over Sony. Not only is the image quality better, but you will also have a MUCH larger selection of accesories available for the Canon. Remember, you're not just buying a camera, you're buying into a camera system.

And yes, memory card speed makes a difference.

the faster the speed of the card the better it can keep up w/ the camera

I bought sony a230, price went down from 550 to 500, and i just could not justify spending extra 130 bucks for xsi, so for a total of 590 with tax i got the camera, 8 gig sony memory stick duo and a case. Too bad I'm at work wright now so I can't play with it, but I will post some pictures tonight when I get home. Again thanks everybody for their input

Fry's had a great deal on it back then for, I think, $14.
It's a fast card too.
