Hey could someone help me figure this out. Me and my father are getting celicas (gts). We got his VIN number in the mail today. does anyone know how to bust it. Figure out what the code means like date built, etc. If not could you point me in the right direction.

thanks vvtlikick but i need a little more info. I know it is a 02 but my mom said she talked to the sales lady and we cannot see it. i think they are up to something and would like to know what options it has.

(http://huizen.dds.nl/~celica/en/celihist.htm) (Scroll about halfway down and there's some 00+ Celica VIN info). Unfortunately, It looks like the VIN can only tell you year, engine, airbags (front or front/side), and serial number. The VIN does state location of manufacture, but I believe all 00+ Celicas were produced in Tahara, Japan.

Maybe David Draper can give you more info if you give him the whole VIN, including the serial number (the last 6 digits).

Hey Dave, The VIN is JTDDY38TX20054001

Oh Yeah. If you think they're trying to screw you, you should make sure the VIN on the engine matches the VIN on the chassis.

If it's the original engine, the numbers should match. If they don't match, it's not the original. But, I don't know off-hand where to look for the VIN on the engine.

Does it have color on it etc.From looking at the site above ( here (http://huizen.dds.nl/~celica/en/celihist.htm) ), the VIN doesn't include such trivial info as color and options (except for the airbag info). The VIN only gives the big stuff, Manufacturer, Year, Engine, etc.

However, the doorsill plate includes includes more coded info, including the paint code. (040 = white, 1D0 = silver, 202 = black, 3P0 = red, ??? = spectra blue mica, ??? = carbon blue, 576 = yellow) Note: I got these codes from Toyota Japan, so I'm not 100% sure all of them are the same as the US color.

You are absolutely correct!! I didn't even look on the first one because cars that have never been delivered do not have customer info.....I'm not exactly sure why this one did.
