Interesting.
My short term goals are to take a photography and Japanese language class.
I should take them both and see if my job will pay for them.

I figure this is the right place to post this so here goes... When you guys/gals shoot at night what kind of lighting setup/flashes are you useing? And for the second part how do i take a silhouette photo :(
mrluilou
01-31-2010, 11:27 PM
what do you plan on shooting at night? if its architecture stuff i just lower the aperture and slow down the shutter speed and keep the iso as low as possible. silhouette pictures the subject must be backlit

At night the only thing I have trouble with are cars :\ most of the other stuff i can do at leaqst so far I can, I guess i just have trouble finding a spot for back lighting

cars? that's a different story :chuckles: you have to have at least 2 speedlites to get a decent picture.
Xx04xGTxX
02-10-2010, 07:44 PM
Well no speedlights now... maybe one day ill rent them for a shoot after i get the huge bump out of my car. On another note... in about a month and a half I'm going to a big car meet/trackday/carshow/drifting thing haha and I was curious what 2 lenses would be the best to use?
mrluilou
02-11-2010, 12:10 PM
don't rent out a speedlite :ugh: for a car meet just take whatever lenses you have that are wide angle!! i like using my prime lens sometimes because it gives some pretty sharp pictures
Xx04xGTxX
02-12-2010, 12:07 AM
lol no the speedlight rental was for a single car photoshoot. The rental for the car show was a lens
mrluilou
02-12-2010, 12:10 AM
what camera do you have? rent like a 17-55mm 2.8 lens :gap:
Xx04xGTxX
02-12-2010, 12:21 AM
A Rebel xs/1000d.... i'm assuming thats wide angle?
mrluilou
02-12-2010, 12:36 AM
i think anything below 28mm is considered a wide angle? :ugh:
correct me if i'm wrong
Xx04xGTxX
02-12-2010, 12:39 AM
lol its very possible, i wouldnt know lol... so when they asay a 10-22mm uwa or w.e that means wide
mrluilou
02-12-2010, 12:49 AM
i think anything below 17mm might be considered ultra wide angle

i wanna buy a really nice lens for landscape and/or portraits....any recommendations?
mrluilou
02-12-2010, 09:57 AM
from what i've read most people choose a telephoto lens for portraits. they choose a lens that's has a focal length of 85mm or more w/ a large aperture. for landscape most people would go w/ an uwa lens :shrugs:
Ervino
02-12-2010, 10:10 AM
i see....let me borrow yours then luiluo :)
mrluilou
02-12-2010, 10:14 AM
I'll lend it to you but you gotta let me borrow that 70-300mm :naughty:
Erwin, a UWA lens is great for lanscapes. For portraits, a prime lens such as the 50mm 1.4 is pretty handy. A 1.8 should be more affordable though.
I think I'll go purchase a Canon 430EX II flash off of B&H. They've got the lowest prices so far @ $280 shipped. That's fawkin' cheap compared to the $20 discount I have with Best Buy, whose $329.99 price tag is the same throughout several other stores.

I realize what I'm about to post has to do with photoshop, but it also has to do with photography and videos. I use PS Preimier elements to edit movies and whatnot.. but I can't figure out how to get pictures to show up right. They show up loking very off like bad editing in PS. I'm trying to do a video that most would do in windows video maker that is basicly pics running with music in the background. Can anyone help?

03-03-2010, 12:45 AM
what looks off??? the colors? maybe your monitor is not calibrated
Xx04xGTxX
03-03-2010, 12:47 AM
No it's only on PS... and its like too many colors? lemme open photoshop and see if i can figure out what part would have to be edited to look that way
NVM... That will take entirely too long. This may sound stupid but uhh how do i take a screen shot? Then I'll just post it
Press the PRINT SCREEN button somewhere at the top right section on your keyboard and paste it into a new window on PS.

Ok well I somehow sixed the Elements problem... not sure how :shrugs: Oh well.
Anyways I'm going to a really big car meet/drag/drift competition on the 20th of this month.. I want to rent a lens or 2 to take with me since I won't have my supra ready to make any passes. I was thinking about taking these 2 lenses Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye , and Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM .... I chose these because I think they are wide angle(although I'm not sure) so can anyone think of a better lens or more suitable lens to take?
mrluilou
03-11-2010, 10:30 PM
i say rent the 10-22 and get something w/ a bit more reach if you want to take pics of the cars drag racing. get something like the 70-200mm
Xx04xGTxX
03-11-2010, 11:00 PM
does the 70-200 have more reach than my 75-300?
mrluilou
03-11-2010, 11:05 PM
of course not :faint:
what other lenses do you have?
Kangaruu
03-11-2010, 11:07 PM
No, the 75-300 has more reach.
70-200 should give you better pictures due to the quality glass.

03-12-2010, 11:04 AM
haha I didn't think so but I thought I would ask.... and I have a 50mm 1.4, the 18-55mm kit lens, and the 75-300mm

What happened to all the photo competitions? Lets start it up again!
Other than Joey/J-easy, has anyone else had their flickr images invited to be "sold" on Getty images?
I got an invite for 7 of my photos and another one for 9.
If you've been invited, have you sold anything before? I need a few model release forms, but I am weary to have them use images I took of my family members. :shrugs:
