I am looking into buying after market head unit, but I want 2 din so it looks somewhat close to OEM. I don't have $1000 to blow, maybe around $400 for sub, amp and head unit. I vent looking on eBay since all known brands have huge prices on 2 din head units. Most eBay 2 din head units claim to have sub output. Is that means I don't have to buy an amp? :AF:
I think after market TV's in the cars looks gay, but thats what they sell on eBay, and if $200 eBay TV/Headunit will actually work and save me some money on amp - I am all for it.
Another route, is take my time and make custom carputer set up.
What do you think?

You get what you pay for.

You couldn't get a good double din HU for $400, let alone a sub, amp AND HU.

From my knowledge powered subs can be used with factory HU. Are they any good?

invest 300-400 in a pioneer double din..
You could probably buy some used amps and subs for 100-200 bucks but you have to look around..

well seeing as how everyone else is just telling you what not to get and hatten ill give you some advice... seeing that you have limited funds (as do all of us) buy wisely... when you get your double din dont expect competition quality but it will be alright and as for the sub powerd headunit, stay away from them, if you just want subs for cheap your best bet is the visonik 12" system off ebay or soniceletronix... its about 150 with free shipping, comes with all the wires you need plus amp and subs, there ok but like v3bahumut said, you get what you pay for...
and after you mount ur double din, unless its a stock or another toyota HU you will need these metra spacers
http://www.bizrate.com/caraccessories/metra-95-8202-double-din-kit--pid742801950/
they fill in the 3/4"ish gap on eaither side and real easy to mount...
also check if your car has a built in amp or its powerd from the h/u... if its built in oem amp than you can get this...

or somthing like it based on what car you have, than you can get away with a lower end headunit if not i would spend about $350-450 on a decent headunit and wait a month or 2 b4 u buy subs...
btw i have a carputer system in my car and i used that harness to hook into my factory amp and i dont have subs yet and it sounds great exept for some alt, noise but when i get some free time ill fix that but its not too noticeable and only when im not playing music...
