ok so it was close to 6 months when i got this damn thing. anyways, long story short... the cop told me he pulled me over cause people "complained" about my driving and my car, and he says i wasn't violating any traffic laws but "i just happen to see your car so i'm pulling you over to tell you." the annoying thing about this, is that i havent lived in this area for close to a year! i just moved back...

after months of waiting for my ticket, i took my car to the state referree where they inspected my celica and passed everything. got my $600 fine in the mail so i went to the court house to make an appointment to go to court, but did not have to pay the fine as specified on the paperwork. its what the court clerck told me so i was like "alright." she filled out my appointment and on the paper it said in bold print "CITING OFFICER WILL NOT BE PRESENT" :)

today was my court date....apparently many people in my area are getting these tickets and all the judge did was sigh and said "did you fix this?" and i said "yes." he didn't ask to see any paperwork the state reff gave me, he just said "ok, $25 thats it." and let me go.

all i can say is....SCORE!

Some old guy in my neighborhood came to my house and asked if the loud red car was here.

My mom told him to **** off.

did you have an aftermarket exhaust that was not in compliance (under 95db) ?

when you went to the state ref did you take the car in the same condition you were cited?

If you can answer no to Q1 and yes to Q2 you should not have to pay anything. When you are innocent they can not charge you court / processing fee's. Of course it requires you to post bail, of which they then make profit off interest on your bail, when they refund you 6-8 weeks later.

Sounds to me like you instead had the voilation "corrected" which I thought modified exhaust was non correctable in CA now, and paid the $25.00 processing / paperwork fee.

The system is one gigantic scam. Innocent until proven guilty, means pay the fine, let us earn interest then refund you the base non interest amount after we've sat on it long enough to make a profit.

I'm waiting for the day when CA issues IOU's instead of refunds on bail's from citations.

i got state ref a few weeks back and went to the state ref and passed everything too, got the paper with the prices in the mail saying it was 500 bucks if corrected and 766 if not corrected. I am going to set up a court date and i hope it will get dismissed or at least get the fine lowered...

they pretty much looking for after market wheels and exhaust and that gives them a "reason" to pull someone over. i passed everything and need to take it back. plus i gotta show the ref papers to insurence so they dont raise my sh*t.

HENd0g, chances are they will lower it. its bull crap and they shouldn't charge u anything for it. bring your paper work from the state ref and try to show the judge before he says you have to schedule another court date with (possible) the citing officer present. people here have said they passed emissions but the judge still charged the $25.

good luck! keep me updated.

yeah i'll definitely keep you updated, where in california are you from? ...and a 25 dollar fee is way better than 500 bucks lol

The cop pulled you over because california is broke.
