View Full Version : Dealing with limited side view?

I picked up my GTS this morning, and it didn't take me long to realize that turning around to see if I have clearance behind me to merge in tighter traffic was almost useless.
I'm used to being in my truck where I have no problem seeing the front and ass end of the vehicle.. in the Celica I still don't know where the front ends, where the back ends, or if there's a car next to me in a blind spot..
Would a stick-on convex mirror solve my problems? Or should I just angle the driver's mirror out a bit and keep track of traffic?

Nope stick on mirrors DONT wont... I tried it and well it was a waste of money... I should have gotten clear corners... Anyway this is what I do and it works really well... Recline you seat till you are albe to see through the quarter window... It will put you in a rather slouched position but it really works... Now when I look on the left side to see if Im clear or not without the door jam obsticting my line of sight... Well I hope that helps... Later...

You need to aim your side view mirrors better. Look into your rear view mirror. Remember where visibility ends on the left and right. Aim your side view mirrors so they pick up visibility right where the rear view's ended. You'll still have to look over your shoulder now and then (you should do it anyway just to be safe), but this will make it easier to see what's around you. Most people point their side view mirrors too far backwards, which defeats their purpose.

I agree with Blue Bomber. Most people seem to like the comfort of seeing part of the side of their car in the side mirrors. This will make them innefective. Aim the side mirrors so you can see a spot in the next lane in line with your rear wheels. you will not be able to see any of your car in the mirror, but you will see what's there. You can see great this way. Believe it or not, I've gotten into a bad habit of never checking over my shoulder after driving the Celica for so long.

after awhile u get used to it.. i still turn my head for all lane changes.... its the safest way that i could think of.... just recline ur seat a lil.. and turn ur head.. also just drive it, and within 2-3 weeks u'll be okay.. just gets some getting used to, especially coming from a truck.

Use your side mirrors to aim in the lanes next to you 3 or 4 car lengths back. Also the convex mirrors do help. I put one on each side and now can change lanes easily knowing what's beside me.

Just drive 10 mph faster than everyone else you won't need to use any mirrors then, except the rearview to check for blue lights j/k I also agree w/ Blue Bomber angle them sides out. The mirrors in the celi are great if properly adjusted. My mom's camry has much bigger blind spots the mirrors don't cover.

Well.. I got side swiped on my front left side today..
It was my fault I was trying to change lane.. didn't look at much.. but lane that I'm going in come car came so fast and swiped my new car.. it's only 2 months old.. my front part of quater panel and the whole left section of the TRD front is swiped... luckly urathane bumpers holds it's self pretty well..
It's bents here and there little..... scratch here and there...
But it still has it's original shape..
That extra money is worth it now..
It was my fault.. but I manager to get the accident fix their own damage... that other guy was pist off... cause I was manage to pulled over to parking lot... move away from scene.. so police can't deciside who's fault..
Not I don't have to pay for that cheap ass car.... I just need to fix mine .. and no insurance incrase..
Now I really have to pay attention to blind spot on Celica....
All you people who doesn't pay attention please look and look...
