View Full Version : B.S. Fix it ticket

I got busted last night for my green side marker bulbs. It took the cop 2-3 miles to catch up to me, just to get me for that.

He's like, "Are you aware that in the state of Ohio, it's illegal to have any other colored bulbs besides amber or white?"

I said, "No sir, I always thought it was just red and blue that was illegal."

"Do you ever wonder why the car companies only put amber or white bulbs there? The reason is that if you're coming at a car from the side you can tell where the front and back of the car is."

I'm thinking, "If you can't tell where the front or back of the car is, you shouldn't be driving."

So he gives me some stupid fix-it ticket. Looks like I'll fix it, get my car inspected, then unfix it. :)

I hate bored cops.

Doesn't sound like BS at all. A law is a law...although there are stupid ones out there...this one isn't one of them.

The law is the law. I don't like cops any more than you, but they have a job to do I suppose. Anyways, do you think those green bulbs make your car look that much better?

A law is a law, you're right there. But do you really think that green side marker bulbs mean anything in the whole scheme of things? I've never had a problem before. Why? Because cops have better things to do then worry about green lights. It's these bored ones that bug me.

It's like getting a speeding ticket for going 5 mph. How happy would that make you? You'd think it was b.s. But technically you were speeding.

I just got pulled over last night for having blue front turn signals (knew it would happen soorer or later).... BUT, I am not sure what my fine is..... with the law that the cop cited, my fine should be 43.50. But it kinda looks like (cops bad handwriting, and he kinda wrote over some printed words) he wrote $250.00!!!!
Man, if I got fined twohundredandfiftybucks for fukking blue blinkers, I'll be pissed......
But I did learn my lesson... off to change them back.

I have alot of family in the Parma area, so I know exactly where you're talking about. As for rice? Why does everything have to be rice? It's a visual enhancing mod, just like rims, just like body kits, just like a brushed aluminum dash kit. It seems to me, that in order to not fall into the "rice" classification, you can't do anything to your car. I don't take offense to that kind of stuff, but I guarantee that other people on this board would. What about someone's APC taillights? I'm sure they don't see them as rice. Or someone's rear spoiler? The list goes on. Please don't bring rice into the discussion, because it'll just turn into a "What is rice? What isn't?" And we ALL hate those threads.

OK very true ... you got me there , but your green is way to much on your front, just do the side markers , and the turn signals. The rest will make peeps turn heads , but will also bring the cops.
Just tone the green down and it will look sharp!

I like how your car likes IMO the green lights look really good. and I agree with you that is pretty much BS for being pulled over just for the lights, I can see getting pulled over for speeding and then adding the lights in on that but for such a small thing the cop needed something better to do.

Well, my head lights aren't green. Those are the park lights. When the head lights are on, you can't even tell - which they were. I didn't have the underbodies on, so the only thing would be the side markers.

It's also a good thing my windows were down...other wise he could've busted me for tint :)

They pulled u over and give u a fix up ticket because they are sick and tired of people calling 911 that they saw a UFO with green lights while they where driving :chuckles: Sorry

But u can't do anything to challenge a fix up ticket because green, red, blue bulbs, once u bought them, they have a caution sign somewhere saying that the bulbs is illegal and it's only used for show cars and not to be used as a daily driving

pj - Actually, I might get that as a license plate...lol...since my car is an auto gt...there isn't a whole lot of "go" in it.

pinoyracer - hehe...that has to be it. I know I can't challenge it, but I'll fix it, have my car inspected so it's "legal" then change it back...it's just one of those stupid laws that are more than likely outdated. Maybe I can sue the state to change the law?

It's coo, I like ur setup. Are you planning on changing ur body paint??? like greenish or candy apple green or something??? I think it would match with ur light setup and it will look good. I know someone *cough* Yoshi3 will get jealous :chuckles:

What about those truckers with those purple marker lights (real purple, not "HID" purple)? Do they ever get pulled over for them?

pinoyracer - My roommate is a hell of an artist, I'm going to have him design something that would incorporate green as a primary color, perhaps silver as a secondary. The idea had also occurred to me to repaint my entire car, but I think that's pretty much out of the question.

Blue - couldn't tell you. What I find interesting is that the state taxes that aftermarket stuff, then tells you it's illegal. So when you get busted, you pay more money.

Ya gotta love bored cops. Imo, that's exactly what happened, slow night, sees a guy with green lights..."Awww h*ll, might as well nail 'em, I got nothin' better to do". I was gonna do mine in blue, looks like it'll be white.

When cops start really saying stupid stuff ... I lauph my ass off .. look at them and say why are you really pickin on me #1 i wasnt speeding #2 i wasnt driving dangerously (i drive VERY defensively) #3 im not going around lookin for trouble # 4 I serve your country (air Force) If im fighting a WAR for YOUR country , leave me alone!

Well, I'm going to write my legislator. I don't see any practical purpose in making them illegal, except for making them illegal so you can pull people over. Also known as a revenue ticket. Yeah, the reason the cop gave me was pretty stupid, though...it just boggles the mind about some of the laws out there...

Cops have too much time on their hands down here in CO too... driving in my Stang a while back and he pulled me over for my exaust... I have supertrapps on the back which are a combo muffler/exaust tip... he told me it was illegal to have them on because they "amplify" my exaust. I tried 50 different ways to explain that the function of a muffler is quite the opposite of amplifying the exaust note, but he just wouldn't go for it. Told me to go home immediately and unbolt my mufflers... yeah, that would have made it alot quieter :chuckles:

Maybe the cop was jealous and couldn't stand lookin at those cool lights :P

buckeye23
07-05-2002, 04:34 PM
Maybe he was jealous. I just spoke with dear ol' dad, he suggested that the lights aren't the reason he stopped me, just the excuse to stop me. My dad, suggested that since my car has a "higher profile" then your average grocery getter, the cop just wanted to check me out. Who knows?

Anyway, I'm just going swap out the bulbs with white ones, then put the green ones back in after I get my car inspected. I'll just find a different way home to avoid any potentional jackass police officers. :bang:

Or...beat the law. I could always paint the inside of my head light casings and also paint my clear corners with a transperent green. Kinda like the "CloneGTS tail light conversion" :). Then put white bulbs in. I'd be legal....hmmm....

Federal law requires that all lights on non-emergency vehicles excluding headlights, foglights, and reverse lights be red or amber. The states can determine what colors emergency vehicles are restricted to.
