 Just curious..........
does there exist any part for the shift gates that prevents mishifts, or at least the 3rd to 2nd misshift. I'm so pissed that it keeps happening to me......... please, driving lessons are not a choice, for me at least:thumbdown

thanks for any help

Well, there is the 2002 shift gate, that should help a bit. I don't know what it would take to get the dealer to instal it.

I still vote for some adjustments to the nut behind the steering wheel. I know most of my driving problems have been cured that way.

Read the TSB on "ease of gear selection" - it says what parts you need.
Its not an easy job tho - have to yank the tranny and dash before your done...

dude has a GT. the tsbs are for gts's. there's nothing wrong with the GT's shifter, there's nothing to "fix." the best advice is if you keep misshifting, to shift a different way. let me try to explain it....

each gear you shift you position your hand different. for 1-2, your hand is on the right of the shift knob and pull down and towards you, pretty close to normal shifting. for 2-3, you have your knuckles towards you and your thumb down, and push away from you, this will make it VERY hard to go to 1st. 3-4 you have you hand the same way and you pull straight down. if your hand is upside down and on the left of the knob you can really pull it into second. the 4-5 shift is basically like the 2-3 shift.

J3adSeed - good thing soneone is paying attention.

Now I have to say that the best fix is adjustment of the nut behind the wheel, there is no other choice (other than an automatic transmission).
