Okay, my synchros are officially gone. I cant get into second gear whatsoever, if it does go in, it just pops back out. David, I was wondering what are the parts I need to fix this problem and what the price would be. I need to get this fixed ASAP, please let me know. THANKS!

Hard to say till you tear down but at least the Syndro, and possibly the 1/2 shift sleeve and secong Gear as well depending on how much damage has been done.
It could also be at least partly due to a cable stretch issue though, you should see if you can get second to engage up at the linkage itself.

Thanks for the reply, but I just want to replace it. I know that its pretty much the synchros.

Have you thought about just purchasing a whole new tranny? Not a "new" one persay, but a tranny from a wrecked Celica?
www.car-part.com should get you on your way. Or go on yahoo and find other "junkyard search engines"
Honestly when/if I'm out of my warranty and I need tranny work. After all is said and done I could (with the help of my dad the super mechanic) put in a new tranny much easier than cracking open a tranny and trying to replace individual components...
just a thought to help you in your process.
So the car isn't even drivable right now?

aren't the synchroes made of brass? can't you take one, go to some shop somewhere, and have them forge a new one out of like titanium or something?

The cost to do that, plus the cost to tear down a tranny, rebuild it, then reinstall it................................................ ...
serious serious bucks here. I'd just try to find a wrecked 6 speed and pull it out and drop it in...

Yeah I was thinking about that but I have a friend that is a Service Manager at a Toyota dealership that gets me parts at costs and cost labor. I was thinking about just replacing it with maybe a 2ZZ-GE tranny for the 1ZZ-FE tranny(I have a GT). I dont know if the 2ZZ tranny will work but replacing it with the !zz was a definite thought. Thanks for the links, you've been more helpful than you know.

The car is drivable but cant shift into second unless I shift right at 3500rpm. I guess because I always shift at 3500, the ECU got used to it and knows how to time the synchro, flywheel, etc at 3500, but other than that, grind, grind, grind.

Actually, what is happening has nothing to do with the ECU. 3500 is probably just "the sweet spot"...
Your sychro's are purely mechanical. They just do what the engineers designed them to do.
I had a problem where if I downshifted into 3rd JUST FROM 6TH it would grind terribly all the time. I could do it perfectly kinda like you are stating.
Griffin (pm him and tell him to post in this thread so that others can see) has stated that the 2ZZ tranny won't bolt up to the 1ZZ engine.
I am having a hard time with that because I was under the impression that the Euro/JDM spec 1ZZ powered cars had the 6 speed the same as the 2ZZ.
To me, it seems odd that toyota would have 2 different 6 speed trannies, although I would suppose it would be because of various ratio issues and powerband/torque curves for shiftpoints.
